The ramen noodle salad was a thing decades ago. I don't think it's particularly midwest. They needed cheesy potatoes and strawberry pretzel salad though.

This was so wholesome and an absolute pleasure to watch. I really enjoyed watching the Lady of the House welcome strangers ( albeit famous ones) into her home and I loved the fact that they have a family meal and itd an important tradition. That was just so pure and wholesome. ❤❤❤

Ohioan here- The family did a really great job in representing midwestern values and cuisine here. Nuclear, working class families are the norm, and the food really represents that: hearty, inexpensive meals that are able to be eaten as leftovers and easily made in large quantities for the next day are staples for people who may not have the time to cook every day. It speaks to the friendly and communal nature of midwestern culture as well. The dishes served are mostly for potlucks, where everyone brings a dish and you have a little bit of everything.

I lived in the midwest for a long time, grew up there for the most part. Ramen Salad is not a thing
I'm from Michigan, and zero of these foods (besides meatloaf) are anywhere near what I consider "comfort foods". None of them. It mostly looked gross. I have never heard of that disgusting ramen noodle salad with the nuts and seeds. 🤮 Did not represent the Midwest very well AT ALL. Just NO! That they think that is what Midwestern food is like is so incredibly sad.
scotch-a-roos are the best no lie idk about the other stuff but that is for sure a midwestern staple.

Idk.. as an Ohioian I have only had 1/3 of whatever half of that food was. It looked good, mostly, but idk if that was the correct household..

Midwesterner here. Never heard of chili-mac, nor have I heard of ramen-salad. Those are not at all common in the midwest.
