  1. Wow, it’s crazy seeing Bruce Melnick now. I met him when I was a kid (I’m 43 now). He signed a photo for me and wrote a message on it. I think it said reach for the stars or something like that, I wish I could remember. Super cool guy.

  2. I suppose that hindsight about plugging a channel overlooks the thinking of the team at the time. I'd like to see the original report that recommended plugging the tube. The cost/ risk/ benefit calculation would be interesting. I wonder what probability they gave to a pin causing such troubles.

    On a different note, did anyone else think about a dog actually catching a car when they were talking about catching the satellite?

  3. Insane is right … design a craft that has a heat shield prone to failure and kill everyone onboard, a craft that has no escape protection for everyone onboard when a catastrophic failure occurs during launch… NASA considers people as an expendable asset… only a naive idiot would get on board…
