  1. UPDATE AND NOTES: The traditional style NATO can (Wehrmacht) was indeed being made, in Germany, pre NATO. Obviously since NATO didn't come until after WWII, they wouldn't of been called NATO cans. The factory was later uprooted and moved to Latvia, now owned by Valpro. It is believed that the jerry can design that we know today was invented in 1937 after WW1. I'm not sure when the nick name Jerrycan came to be, though the name Jerry was slang for Germans. The US along with other allies copied the design. Hopefully this helps and I will pin the comment so other people can learn. And yes, I know the "S" is Illinois is "silent". Links are not allowed and automatically removed by a YouTube filter, as I do not have time to make sure they are safe for other viewers. Also because these cans are not vented, if you keep the caps/rings tight, the pressure inside the can may cause the rings to crack. If the can is full of fuel, this is not as likely as there is less air in the can to expand. I only keep my caps tight during transport. The threads on this can are the same threads as the plastic MidWest gas cans. Aftermarket caps and rings can be found here: https://ezpourspout.com/how-to-choose-the-best-spout-base-cap-for-your-gas-can/ You can also 3d print rings and caps here (I had to increase the size 2% for a perfect fit): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2757708

  2. I've half a dozen real surplus NATO cans that have a metal flap type lid. Only down side is the inside coating is coming off, but if you use a strainer or filter it isn't a problem.

  3. The EPA is an unelected bureaucracy it should be dismantled and the responsibility sent back to the states which all have their own now

The closer government is to the people the more responsible it is

  4. It's not the can it's the spout that's worthless . That little plastic hook will slide off from the weight of a full can every time , The bottom line is the bubble heads that invented these things refuse to go back to the drawing board .

  5. Any gas can over 1 gal that doesn't have a back handle isn't worth owning. Try tipping and holding even 3 gal of gas without a handle for both arms. Just plain stupid design. All of those.

  6. I hate the f'n EPA. Anytime a government agency gets involved, you can bet they will make a mess of things. Overengineered, overcomplicated and just plain dangerous. Just give me a damn old school spout with a cap on it. I'll take my chances.

  7. Still no pouring handle. It's like these gas can designers have zero comprehension of center of gravity, and never actually poured anything from a heavy container. Do the lid threads even fit an ez-pour spout?

  8. What happened to the old style can with the two inch threaded steel cap with the lugs you could tighten up? they came with a steel screw in spout or one with a rubber press in squeeze lever spout, that works like a plug in a boat. I used those type cans for my backhoe up toll the 1990s even had them after 2000. we always have to take every good idea, that works perfectly well, and toss it right in the Goddamn trash, anything to burden Americans! yay!

  9. I bought 2 of them a year ago, both pour spouts cracked around the threads when installed. Called the company
They sent 2 more. Within a couple of months they too cracked. I ordered some on Amazon from a different company and they're fine. If you do get them, you can expect the caps won't last.

  10. The new plastic cans only last about 3 years before you have to replace it. Recently had the fire dept come around for an inspection and advised me not to keep the cans stored outside. He wanted me to store them inside my garage? What? Not going to happen since I do small metal work with grinding and welding. I bought some Vevor cans and they seem to want to bulge from the gas expansion sitting outside (even in the shade). Dispensing fluid is really good as it has an internal vent with no plastic anywhere. The can you show I like b'cuz of the recessed seam where-as the vevor has a protruded seam

  11. The spout s designed by feces brain bureaucrats, so that things won’t catch fire. Of course it. is an absolute piece of crap. You’ll leak more gas all over the place and have a bigger chance of catching a fire. Also, it will take forever to dispense the fuel ,and if you don’t leak and into flames., You will drop the damn thing because it weighs a ton. Dispensing half an ounce an hour,, It will take forever to get the gas from the can into your device and an accident is bound to occur. This is what happens when you let ignorant bureaucrats from the federal government redesign a perfectly good device into something that’s dangerous and won’t work.

  12. I have three of thes, the can itself, is well made, the cap/spout just sucks. I also have some of the Chinese made "NATO" style cans and they are far superior to these. I have kept "NON-Ethenol" gas in them for over 4 year without problems. BTW, I use a "shaker" hose on all my cans. If you use them, you need to pull the "flame shield out. Has anyone found a METAL cap that will fit? I don't use the spout except to keep the seal.

  13. Having used these can more than a few times I can say I like the old PRE-BAN cans from Blitz over these new ones. The new ones might be alright if it were not for the EPS APPROVED spout which is awkward and dangerous. Just yesterday I listened to the tirade of a person who used one of these NEW cans and the expletives aren't fit to repeat around truckers at dinnertime. BUT NOTHING EVER GETS DONE ABOUT THEM. THE EPA IS ALWAYS RIGHT AND NEVER WRONG AND OUR LAWMAKERS DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT THEIR NEXT STOCK PURCHASE. (Sigh…)

  14. I knew a guy who was using one of those new EPA approved nozzles on his jerry can, who, after spilling gas all over his sleeves and down his pant leg into his shoe, dropped the gas can which caused it to throw a spark when it hit the concrete. He was a good dude.

  15. I prefer Tough Jugs. Holds 5 gallons & no EPA spout. Takes about 60-90 seconds to dump the 5 gallons. Pro tip: place the breather tube down the handle to keep a smooth flow. About $30 ea.

  16. Spent $140 on a GOOD Jerry can. Metal latching too and NO strainer.
Suggestion: be sure to use ethanol free gas to reduce the risk of rust.
AND use a good quality fuel stabilizer if you plan on storing gas.
For me, I do both AND use the gas annually for rotation purposes.
Remember, you want WINTER BLEND gasoline not summer blend.
    There is a difference.
