  1. BJJ without takedown defense or ability is not nearly as effective as pure wrestling or judo. It’s why Rousey was able to dominate for as long as she did. Not even competition had the complete package, either too dependent on grappling or kick boxing. She fell cus her ego got to her and she’d hired a yes man coach, leading to her believing she was an elite striker. Obviously we know how that turned out when she decided to try to throw hands against one of the most elite kickboxers at the time for just a round. By the second rd there was no coming back cus she had already lost psychologically

  2. Okay but unless you know the athletes how tf do you know who is who?
The shoulder toss is entry level shit so a BJJ blackbelt could easily possess that techniques whike an armbar is also damn near entry level so a Judo blackbelt could very well have that technique.
Not to mention idk who traditionally wears blue but both disciplines wear white gi so lets be real how tf random people supposed to know?

  3. Basically in full context, BJJ is judo the Brazilians modified it.

A few Japanese judo martial artist went to brazil and realized they didnt have any art in defense so they taught the Brazilians judo and they basically modified into what we know it as BJJ. Pretty cool and interesting

  4. Judo underrated? Its an international sport done all over the world at a very high level. There are Asian, European and World tournaments and championships every year. Its even an important Olympic sport. BJJ is overrated I guess. Over here in the Netherlands we had several great world and olympic judo champions: Willem Ruska, Anton Geesink and Mark Huizinga. They are absolute legends in this sport.

  5. I did only a few years of Judo when I was a kid. When i got bullied in school I folded guys from the upper classes who had more size and weight left right and center until the bullying stopped. They all apologized when I had them in my gatame. None ever tried again.

Even with my very limited experience Judo was extremely effective especially against stronger opponents.

It gave me confidence and even tho I moved on from it I am very thankful for what it has done for me.

  6. I used to do Judo when I was younger, as well as other martial arts, it’s the main combat skill which has literally saved my life. After throwing someone, effectively, they rarely want to continue fighting.
