  1. I don't think the Smith machine, leg press or most other fix machines are good for a full range motion, since they disturb the functional anatomy. You can neutralize the tendency for lumbar kyphosis during a deep, sitting leg press, by doing the exercise with one leg at a time. I believe it's better most of the times to do basic exercises with free weights, if you want to learn good form and proprioception.
