How did i never know of this wonderful Australian Movie although an Aussie version of The Polish Bride..
Australian movies at their best. Too often we get predictable American trash movies on youtube. I dont know why Americans put up with it. We need more Australian New Zealand content on youtube and for that matter i would love to see more international movies. This film is one of the great unique stories of Australia, done beautifully. I would love to see more of these as we do not see the other stories of middle eastern refugees who arrive in our essential racist country.
I personal got the pleasure of meeting a young 22-year-old who came to Australia from Iraq. His story while full of trauma was so enlightening to me. their culture is so much like the culture of our 1st nations peoples. Generosity of the spirit is far more valuable than wealth and possessions and while i might not have much, what i have is yours.
Yet, with whats happened in recent history, his community is being demonised which serves to retraumatises them. We offer so little empathy to these communities here in Australia. Even through the Gaza war very little attention was given to their experience but our media was more than happy to give Israel and our jewish community their voice. I sure someone will come to making a movie of this strain and capture it as beautifully as it was handled in this movie.

Not sure of the ending! Were they in a jail with all that barbed wire? Did he marry her? How was she able to go home with him? How did he find her daughter? There’s a gaping hole in how this ending goes.
Not clear at all. Don’t know Australian law on how this works.

It’s not even believable, that it didn’t take years or decades, to develop conversational English when you’re of a foreign name language as an adult. It’s a cute story, but it’s really BS. I wouldn’t waste my time.
