  1. Man ‘O War won one race by 100 lengths. He had heavier shoes, raced on slower tracks, and had to carry as much as 131lbs of weight. That’s like carrying two jockeys. Secretariat never carried weight, tracks were faster and shoes were lighter. Not to take anything away from Secretariat, but to dispel shade that has been thrown on Man ‘O War. One thing cannot be argued. Man ‘O War set the standard for excellence. So, people who claim Secretariat was the greatest racehorse of all time do not know any history of horse racing. I’m not saying Man ‘O War was better than Secretariat. I’m saying no one can know. We do know they were both great racehorses and athletes.♥️✨💫

  2. Horse racing is a blood sport in which very young horses are discarded to the slaughter pipeline when they get hurt, or are not fast enough.
Wherever there is one penny to be made with animals, the animals always lose.

  3. Sorry but that last race looked like a joke, The Belmont race is the greatest race ever run by a horse, he ran each quarter mile split faster than the one before, Of course it was run by the greatest race horse that has ever lived. Any other year poor Sham would have been a triple crown winner but he had the misfortune of being born the same year as Secretariat.

  4. They need to note they only considered horses they had modern film of. Where was Phar Lap? 20L or Man O' War's Belmont 20L or Lawrence100L or Whirlaway Ky Derby 8L then Belmont 12L? There are others. Really surprised

  5. I know you shouldn't let people's opinions ruin things for you, but I can't enjoy Secretariat's races (or him in general) because people only EVER talk about him. Even in unrelated races. Like, I'll watch an impressive win on turf, and someone is bringing him up??? What? I just don't get it, it ruins the experience. Or when someone shares there favorite race (i.e. "I loved Rags to Riches win in the Belmont") some sourpuss has to be like, "He could run her down no problem." Okay? Sure. Not relevant, though, buddy. Forever and always a legend (Secretariat), but damn, shut up, y'all.

  6. 1920 Lawrence Realization Stakes at Belmont Park. His sole opponent, Hoodwink, was so far behind that the official margin was recorded as approximately 100 lengths.

  7. Lady Aurelia needed Firm Turf to pull off that monster race… but she did it. In fact, I believe ALL of the Turf courses in this video were Firm/Fast.

  8. There’s no horse that could ever be in secretariat’s world lol. I put him against any horse of all time and I guarantee you he would beat them all. No horse has ever beaten his records worldwide! Best there ever was

  10. I'm old enough that I was fortunate to see Secretariat do his thing in real time. At the time it had been 25 years since the last triple crown winner. Secretariat fixed that issue with records that will stand the test of time.

  11. It no doubt helped him tremendously that his heart was far larger than average. He was a big, powerful horse, and to maintain his incredible stride and continuous pace required a lot of physical strength – plus the heart to win!

  12. Secretariat was the ONLY racehorse to make the cover of Time magazine. A HORSE! It was the intangibles that made Secretariat great; he captured the imaginations of the people.

  13. I disagree with this list. On 4 September 1920 Man O' War crossed the finish line at Belmont 100 yards in front of Hoodwink. The race was the Lawrence Realization at 1 5/8 miles; the winning time of 2:40 4/5 broke both American and World records and stood until 25 July 1956 when Swaps, a great-great grandson of Man O' War, broke it at Hollywood Park by approximately 2 sevonds.

  14. Just for information, the mighty and unbeaten Nearco won the 1938 Italian Derby by an incalculable number of lenghts (official distance: "lontano", i.e. "far away"). I do not know – I doubt it, frankly – if there still is a video of that stunning performance.
