Should Resident Evil 9 Go OPEN WORLD?

Resident Evil should embrace open world; a smaller, more intricately robust open world that we’re not used to seeing today.

  1. I had this discussion on reddit about a year ago. It is definitely doable. But there needs to be scripted choke points, smaller areas that are isolated from the open world, corners and scary corridors like in RE1's mansion, if Capcom does pull it off then it has the potential to be the best RE title to date, but they have to go into it with the knowledge that it will be very easily done wrong, and will have to be pioneering in how open world is done. It can't just be another huge map with familiar RE characters and familiar RE enemies. They are going to have to change the whole premise of open world, because RE games HAVE to be scary! RE5 fell victim to the fact that it was not scary enough and to me was more of an action game than a survival horror. Wether they get it right or wrong im excited to see what they do because capcom usually does a great job

  2. Preferred open world we have more chance playing other characters instead of one character which is gets kinda boring playing with the same character.prefer playing with other characters too different style gameplay

  3. Open worlds don't have to shrink necessarily, they just have to contain meaningful content and stop with the time wasting little side quests/ capture points. Resident Evil would be amazing in an open world if they can follow that rule. Don't waste the gamers time and you should be ok

  4. But you forget an important thing in a horror game ( whether Class or Survival type) and that's Rhythm and paced of horror and scripted events which have huge impacts on user experience in these type of games. Implementation of pacing in this genre while player can go anyplace through a big area is so difficult

  5. A dynamic open-city that is gradually being overtaken by an outbreak. So, the longer you play the more infected/dangerous the city becomes. Would also be cool to mix in the Outbreak games where you have an infection meter of your own. Would be a perfect recipe for an Outbreak 3… just saying

  6. I mean if they go with the silent hill where you had the town to walk through with so many buildings to explore would be good, like a creepy seaside town with a massive fair as like a sub map to explore and other bits too it id like that we just have to be very careful what we wish for we have literally just got resi back with 7 village and the remakes 3 is still decent

  7. I loved the ink ribbon saved points it added to the anxiety of surviving. I'm not really into the checkpoint chapter kind of saving like Resident Evil 4 it kinda killed the vibe knowing I could relax now and again.

  8. "Open World" has no unified agreed definition.

I think RE9 could work fine as "open world" but i doubt it would be the kinda game requiring fast travel.

I could imagine a large village location which could potentially lock off parts of the map to support the narrative

  9. Yes, I do believe it should at least have semi-open world, I think a full open world would be terrible though. A semi-open world has so much potential in Resident Evil, i mean look at Outbreak, it's a really cool game, and if something like that goes down, we should get side quests as well which would actually slap in RE. Overall I think a Semi-open would be great.
