  1. I actually taught him the armbar. They all couldnt believe it. As soon as he tapped everyone started clapping and even today they tell that story. Its a bit humiliating for them so its an inside story. Sorry to brag

  2. there are other martial arts that fight and have technique on the ground, like judo, kosen judo, and sambo. all these incorporate joint locks and chokes.. lets not make it seem that bjj was the pioneer to all this.

  3. Most of the grapples and thrown I know I taught myself. They didn’t have bjj where I lived, judo would have been my thing because my dad was familiar with it. I’m 40 now so I’m too old to be throwing mfs around lol

  4. I was in my teens when he fought his first UFC match and of course I watched it. I was very much into Taekwondo at the time and saw grappling from a WWF/ now WWE perspective. Real athletes, but putting on a show, not a serious skill to focus on in terms of combat. He changed all of that. Suddenly getting tackled wasn't a reason to panic, it was a reason to think. "You screwed up and now I own you. I'll still be right here when you get tired."

  5. The last 30 years have not been more important for martial arts than the last 30k years! The ancient Greek Olympics were designed to test real battle skills. Boxing, wrestling, Pancraton, throwing javelin, discs and shotput, and sprinting – were all for improving battle skills. The ancient Europeans knew EXACTLY what worked in real fights. All the confusion came from the Hong Kong Fooey 70s.

  6. In 2003 I named my first pup as an adult living on my own Gracie. After this man, Found her in the woods with 32 ticks on her and throwing up worms, vet said she wouldn’t survive so I gave her the strongest name I could think of. She was the best dog ever and lived long. Also made me a pit bull lover, was hard to tell at 4 weeks old what kind of dog she was but quickly became apparent she was a pit, great dogs and was very protective of my wife and son.
