Enemy Mine was better than this.
If you have trees and plants, flora, sunlight, photosynthesis, chlorophyll, you have oxygen and water, you have the same atmosphere that sustains all life, no need for silly helmets. If they had filmed it at a different location (desert) it would have been more convincing to pretend the atmosphere was alien / poisoned. What is good for trees is good for mammals.
You have to watch the whole movie once, then watch it again for it to make sense. But it does make sense. Good script, better acting. Good movie.
