Looks like a 2008–2012 Ford Escape, which would have been equipped with stability control — but all it takes is a faulty ABS sensor to make it inoperative. With the way those rear wheels locked up, ABS likely wasn't active here, so ESC couldn't prevent that skid. Look around and see how many people are driving around with various warning lights on their dashboards, it's worrying.
Important behavior when having an accident: wear a bright yellow safety vest. Have as many of these vests in the pocket of your car doors as you have seats! Do not store them in the trunk. Only ever leave the car on the safe side where the lane border is. Turn on your lights, hazard lights and open your trunk. You will be visibly larger for oncoming traffic and they can see the headlights even during daylight. You can wait outside the car, no problem, but always BEHIND the guard rail, never on the tarmac. If you can do it safely: move /push your vehicle out of the road.
Don’t give wrong information. The state of Ohio says that if you can do so safely get as far away from your crashed car as you can. If you’re sitting in your crash car on the expressway you’re just gonna get hammered again
Not paying attention, and badly maintained brakes. No amount of stability control and ABS could save the idiot. You are bound to be doomed trying to negotiate special terms with the laws of physics.
Not sure if this was mentioned in previous comments but I see that this Mercury SUV possible has a bad brake master cylinder & has no working front brakes. Notice the rear wheels locked up & the front still spinning. Slamming on your brakes when you only have rear brakes makes you loose control very easily & especially in a panic situation. Also notice that the front of the vehicle never dips down or lowers like it should when the front brakes are locked up. Think I'm wrong? Try putting on only your parking brake (rear wheels) at 30- 40 MPH.
ha ha!! another one of those a holes that can't get up early enough for work and then speed and not pay attention to the traffic coming to a stop on 169! Glad that person was the only one involved!! Next time get up earlier or go to bed earlier!!
The way it yawed with very little steering wheel movement suggests an imbalance in the front braking force. Either the left front was under-braking or the right front was over-braking. The ABS obviously wasn't working on the rear tires as you can see all the smoke from them having locked up before entering the camera's view.
Both rear locked & fronts rolling.. either they jammed the emergency brake ( only applies to the rear wheels) or it has a faulty ABS sensor/system & didn't modulate rear hydraulic pressure. Paying attention could've helped too, but asking someone to pay attention & actually Drive is such an inconvenience these days
Staying in your vehicle is off in the safest option but if you do get out and you can get out safely get behind the guardrail so nobody else can slide into you.
Those guardrails are an amazing thing, the way they not only tolerate all that energy, but they seem to absorb it! If that guardrail wasn't there… God bless all guardrails everywhere! ❤

If that road wall on the right wasn’t there things would had been worst.

there’s nothing ODD about this, at all! 😕 … (people not paying attention to traffic slowing down)

Person was probably distracted…phone…and braked late.
Someone wasn't paying attention to traffic in front of them.
Don't these Ford's have floor mounted pedal parking brakes? Looks a lot like they jammed those on and locked the rears.

New cars have SHIT breaks, huh? Wow.
I think he was playing a game of chess and got checkmated. Happened to me once.
Looked like they hit the parking brake, but those are supposed to be Darwin proof. Odd they couldn't steer with ABS systems they have now.
Speeding and distracted
Odd? just another one not looking past their hood and then traffic stops. I noticed people in the U.S. tend to do that.

My god 169 is a mess
Operator error 90% faulty brakes 10% they work ok under normal braking but an emergency situation they are out of balance.
Bald tires will do that to you..
Lets just not pay attention

Following to close , a favorite pastime of Mn drivers . Watch I 94 east on any Sunday afternoon starting about Alexandria to the twin cities. Yikes 😱

Check your idiot lights on your dashboard once in awhile.
Did I mention to pay attention while driving? Sheesh
