  1. The only screen-inspired vacation I really want to do is Highclere Castle, and it’s more for my mother than for me. She was a huge Downton Abbey fan, and in the last months before she passed away from cancer, the show was true source or consolation for her. I’m glad she lived to see the finale, and I want to visit in her memory.

  2. I’m a self employed American who lives in Europe. It feels like they’re always going abroad on paid vacations. Of course there are budget options and destinations. But no one needs to go broke…unless you go to Eurodisney of course XD

  3. I remember wanting to go to Barcelona because it seemed so fun in Cheetah Girls 2. I don't want to anymore, but it's still a fun movie.
Also, Johnson Family Vacation made road trips so hectic. 😂

  4. I mean I’m not negating this for many but this is kinda outdated. This is my life…I solo travel & take frequent trips with friends. I’m not rich & I can afford travel expenses and accommodations that are not budget. I work hard. That’s all. It’s not impossible and it can be realistic.

  5. My family and I have taken vacations ever since I was a baby. Then, after my sister was born, we continued the tradition of traveling. And no, it's not easy! As an adult, I'm beginning to see how stressful it is. We've stayed in fancy hotels, modest motels, and some real dives. But we always mange to have fun, wherever we are.
Also, fun fact about the National Lampoon's Vacation franchise: The movies were based on the real-life experiences of some of the magazine staff. I remember seeing issues of the magazines in stores, growing up, but they're currently out of print.
Eat, Pray, Love was based on a true story, of a woman's journey to find herself. I didn't read it, but it's a good movie. However, my family and I don't travel because of media influence. We travel because it's something we enjoy.

  6. I as a German don’t get expectations, I’m content with remaining in Europe, and tropical beach doesn’t excite me me and neither do desert, and anything else is round on our small continent 😂

  7. Hey, not related to this video in particular… I have been following you a long time and really love your content, your take on different cultural troupes is always interesting! I've been wondering if maybe you have compiled lists of recommended tv shoes and movies that you mention in your videos? I'm always looking for good recommendations of what to watch, and often when you mention a show/movie in your videos I think "that sounds interesting, I should watch that", but then the video ends and I can't remember the name of it! Just wondering if this is something you do or are interested in doing…thanks and hope you keep making awesome videos!🙂

  8. What a shame we live in a society where only people with expendable cash (an ever-shrinking group) can experience these trips, or sports venues with their favourite teams, or the kinds of technological toys and games that cost a small fortune.

"Oh so rich people shouldn't be able to enjoy their Money?"

No, but money shouldn't stop working class people from also enjoying life. People with three jobs supporting their families deserve the vacation more than some rich nepo-baby or corrupt CEO but instead they're forced to work work work so they don't have time to think about how crappy their situation is and maybe do something about it by design.

  9. 2 week vacations are NORMAL outside of the US!! DH and I are going on the Orient Express for a couple of days before meeting friends in Paris and getting the train back to London. We’ll probably have a family vacation in August too… we are neither rich nor poor.

(Edit: Emily in Paris is ridiculous, particularly the clothes. Going to Disney is my Room 101, my kids have never yearned to go either).

  10. My favorite film 'vacation' is in RV with Robin Williams, because it is a total mess where everything goes wrong, but the family still manages to bond over what a wreck it is because they at least all get to be miserable together.

  11. I am surprised it was Emily in Paris that made me people go when that is one of the most popular locations to travel to and considering Monte Carlo was filmed before or the hundred foot journey or any film that romanticized Paris.

  12. The only reason many humans yearn for a long due vacation is because it's like a multiple few small handfuls of free time they feel like they've earned after being a perfectly obedient member of society who feel guilty for making time for themselves simply because they recognize their need for a less stressful lifestyle. It's okay to not be productive and available to other people 24/7 and to instead choose to spend your time spend with those closest to you and yourself more wisely.

  13. Honestly, when my best friend was turning 30 we decided to go to an all inclusive resort in Mexico because of the first sex and the city movie 😂 my husband and her wife even got us a plate of strawberries and champagne to watch the film after a long day of swimming in the pools. 6 years later it's still a highlight.

  14. My family tried to do the Disney trip but it was very overwhelming so we all agreed to stay at the hotel the second day we all just played catch at the pool, including my mom. It was one of the best family days ever! They are right aim for fun wherever you are and you can't go wrong. We also vacation in our state, we pick a hotel like one hour away. So we get the pool, food and entertainment, but no expensive stressful travel!

  15. Take things slowly. A lot of people like to hit the ground running as soon as they get off the plane, but my family has learned that taking it slow provides a much more enjoyable experience. Also, staying in one place for longer – maybe with the inclusion of a day-trip – is much easier than trying to bounce around constantly.
