Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes – More Of The Same

Kingdom, the fourth entry in the competent but slightly forgettable Planet of the Apes remake series, is a decent but slightly …

  1. Funny how the ‘echoes’ wear clothes showing they are still more technologically advanced than the savage apes, yet neither have stone tools, all they have is stolen from humans and misused/ misunderstood.

The funniest part was when the human explained germ warfare to the monkey who doesn’t understand fishing nets… then his response is, why cant monke have nukes? 😂

  2. I’m not a Planet of the Apes guy in any way, but I didn’t mind this film at all. It kept my attention the whole time, and that is saying a lot these days. But I agree they could have shaved 15-20 min, and it would have still been satisfying.

  3. I will say although I like the new Kingdom trilogy, being a sequel to the prequel of the Caesar trilogy, it’s somewhat of a weak start for me personally. I say that because it’s such an odd take to introduce new characters and a brand new story, only to kill off two of the most important and interesting characters, which are Raka and Proximus. Raka represents the old order of Caesar, spreading its true message of what it meant to be an Ape. Proximus spreads the same message, but twists and turns it to hate on humans, but also bring apes together as the dominant species, only under his ruling order and control. And now they are both killed off? Or at least that’s what the movie implies that they are of course. So although I am excited and I am glad the franchise continues to stay true to what it’s establishing, I’m also somewhat skeptical about this new trilogy and hoping for the best.

  4. I just watched it for the second time and i liked it a lot more than the first time around. I think people are still attached to caesar and what he stood for, and they somewhat touch on his legacy and how muddied it has become. But I feel like it's too brushed over, the time jump too big. I guess we can put the pieces together and accurately guess how the legacy of caesar gets misconstrued and what not but compared to the the 2nd and 3rd movies, it seems as if ape civilization as regressed or stayed somewhat the same. At the end of the third movie youd think the apes would of built this wonderful home and have decades if not centuries to expand on it. If they make a 5th movie they need to touch on that more because the apes trying to find their way and learn from humans is a central theme, one that the apes so far never achieved. By the end of this series i think they should leave it on a more hopeful note of apes learning to be better compared to their past counter parts. It is fiction after all and instead lf continuing the cycle of humans/apes always falling short itd be nice for a change. This series has always been a mirror to humanity anyway.

  5. 5:20 But the revolutionaries being just as bad when they take power, and apes not being more ethical than humans… this is a great message and point to make. It’s not a standard leftist one, either, but one they need to hear

  6. My biggest complaint about this movie is the actress portraying the main human. A completely wooden performance virtually devoid of any semblance of a personality, and basically just another Mary Sue character. There's no real struggle on her part. Everything is literally given to her. First by Noa and Raka and then by just Noa. Not to mention, she looks like she weighs all of 110lbs soaking wet, and she's out here throwing 200lb+ apes off of her back, completely ridiculous.

In summary, if I had to describe my thoughts on this movie to someone not terribly interested in the art of cinematography, I'd say, visually gripping but not much else. A solid 4/10 for me.

Anyway, that's all I've got for today. Go away now!

  7. 5:04 I think the apes falling to the same shortcomings as humanity is poetically ironic. It makes sense narratively that they’d become no better than the humans who oppressed them before cause let’s face it, nothings new under the sun, and intelligent beings are going to fall to victim to things like selfishness, greed, and the pursuit of power at the expense of others.

  8. Jesus can u not see that they are obviously setting up something massive and potentially finally introducing the astronauts?! Im hyped as f*ck to see what they will do with that idea. Matter of fact i didnt watch anything regarding if it was "woke" or bad before watching it and i ended up really enjoying it. Even after, im still excited for whats planned if we get more films. You people need to stop and try and enjoy stuff more instead of looking into each and evrey f*cking detail claming its "woke" or some other bs.🙄

  9. Sooooooo is this movie set in Australia or not? I don’t understand why they filmed this one here in Australia it was so off-putting seeing al native Australia bush land and then hearing Americans 😂

  10. For me, it was really hard to root for the human girl, because she was so untrustworthy and never told anyone anything useful; their lives would have been so much easier — and my viewing experience so much more enjoyable — if I'd known what the hell her game plan was 2 hours earlier.

  11. The movie being so boring followed by an introduction to a human lead makes it harder to wave away the plot holes.

The big one being. If she got trained on the whereabouts of the bunker, hand-to-hand combat, bomb making, and exactly where to find the book then why was her heard killed. Wouldn't they also be trained just as well as she was? If not, why weren't they? It makes more sense to have an adult survive than her if they all shared the same skill set.

If the rest of the movie wouldn't have been as dull, I wouldnt have thought to deep into this while watching it. It was literally the only one that had me checking the runtime and I watched the first two right before it on a flight.

  12. Having just watched this finally, I disagree with the notion that this doesn't move the plot forward and that it is more of the same.

At the beginning we have the general assessment that humans are mute because of the events of the previous films, apes have established dominance, and that we are well on our way to an ape controlled world.

by the end of it, humans delivered a devastating blow to the apes using human tactics of war and deception that were foreign to the apes, and established communication with multiple underground bases that were unaffected by the events that made humans mute. The surviving apes now know fully that their dictator Proximus Caesar was correct in not trusting humans and they intended to learn from this mistake and we even see at the end of the movie they are exploring areas trying to learn more.

In effect a full blown human resistance movement versus a renewed distrustful ape population is clearly set up for the future. Unlike previous films this does not look like it will be a lopsided match up where apes curb stomp the humans.

To say this is simply more of the same is the miss the entire point of the movie and I question whether Drinker watched this movie at all. In fact all the ape movies up until this point universally show the apes dominating the humans with the exception of the second ape movie from the original 5 where a nuke gets set off and blows up the entire planet. But even in this latest movie it is different as the humans obtain a decisive victory over the apes and in all the other ape movies the humans have lost their technology, and in this one they didn't lose it completely.

Also the ape and human friendship in this one is must more tenuous than in past movies.

I will agree it didn't need be as long as it was.

So yeah, Drinker gets this one wrong and badly.

  13. Loved the trilogy. But the apes are talking too much in the new one. It throws me off especially the female and the kids voices. They are just too human. Also how they all know english very well yet choose not to speak gramarly correct half the time.

  14. Kingdom made me rewatch the whole franchise.
Some of this movies i saw some 20, 25 years ago.
When you say that this is justore of the same i take as a compliment.
Give me more apes movies, i'm fkg addicted with it thanks to Kingdom.
