I-35 pile-up caught on camera (multiple semi’s involved)
The following incident
Occurred on Friday, December 10 around 11am in the southbound lanes of I-35, just north of Faribault, which is south of the Twin Cities.
MN State Patrol reported the crash involved 7 vehicles – 5 passenger vehicles and 2 semi trucks, including one semi truck jackknife. The southbound lanes were closed for approximately 2 hours before one lane was reopened.
Incredibly, there were no injuries reported with the pile up. The State patrol said it received 286 total crash reports associated with the day’s snowfall with 21 injuries and 21 jackknifed semi’s across the state.
A closer analysis of this vehicle shows how the median cable barrier helped prevent serious injuries by preventing several cars – including both semis from going into oncoming lanes. While the barrier limited some lateral movement for the vehicles, it ultimately played a major role in preventing more significant forces from being involved.

It's amazing nobody was hurt, but I would hate to be the officers on duty that day with all that friggin paperwork.

I think the positioning of the barrier is quite dubious and if they're going to have a barrier there it should be the corrugated metal kind or concrete. Even in a wide median like this I'd think cable should be for use in straightaways only and dead center and something more substantial is needed on curves especially if close to the traffic lanes.

Geesh, I guess in this situation if you are one of those cars that missed the jackknifed semi, you should probably put at least some distance between you and the scene, and head a bit further down.
Braking to a complete standstill with nothing ahead of you but massive articulated lorry behind you (that is obviously sliding uncontrollably) is rather counterproductive. 🤔
Damn the first 3 vehicles avoided the semi, the next semi #3 canceled all that out!

That Sara-Lee semi truck that decided it was better idea to crash off road in this small cars is crazy & need their cdl taken immediately instead break onto the semi he decided to crush small cars off road & at that decides it’s better yet merge onto opposite side of this interstate cars traveling in opposite direction smh WTF

Maybe it’s just me but I think that big patch of grass in the middle had something to do with the fact that they didn’t go into oncoming traffic.

Looks like the drivers got trapped by the cable in what otherwise would have been a controlled maneuver to drive around the initial crash….Instead they took it up the rear.

People tend to be stupid. We were heading to Arkansas a couple of years ago. It was just before daylight. We though we saw black ice and proceeded with caution. The on ramp to the interstate was blocked because a vehicle was cross threaded. We did a cloverleaf around to get on the interstate in the correct direction. The local station 102.5 was reporting a lot of wrecks on the road but did not know what the problem was. They were reporting that it was 31 degrees F so they said it could not be ice. We proceeded along and about got cross threaded in one overpass. Luckily we flipped the switch for 4 wheel drive. We were on the interstate about 4 miles and saw 18 vehicles that had run off of the road. We pulled into the Flying J truck stop and waited for daylight. We even saw one semi run into a van while we sitting in the parking lot. As soon as it got daylight we headed south. The slick roads ended about 1 mile south of the Flying J. Be safe out there.
I better knock on wood cuz I've been driving for a living for a long time now and have never had to be stuck in traffic for more than 2 hrs
Actually, those cable barriers did not help. None of those vehicles would have made it into the opposing lanes, and those cable barriers prevented a couple of cars from avoiding damage.
Those style barriers do more harm than good.
Americans must learn not to drive like jerks.
I seen cars that barely hit those cables,it totals them almost every time.
IT NEVER FAILS THAT IN WINTER BAD TRUCKERS WILL NEVER DRIVE ACCORDING TO ROAD CONDITIONS BUT HAVE TO SPEED AND ALWAYS BLOCK TRAFFIC FOR MILES!!!
Camera view shows plenty of visibility any interview of drivers why they felt ok to drive faster than safe .
