  1. it always baffles me when these super gms are like "yes i've had this position in 2005 vs xyz, they plated abc, but if i remember correctly the engine says to play cba". I can't even remember if my last win was via checkmate, resign, etc

  2. When "discipline" turns into "work," that's when you start down the pathway to stress and burnout. You're doing activities that are supposed to help you, but getting the wrong response for it. But if you approach it the way Magnus suggests, he's still putting in the time, but he's doing it on his terms, when he's mentally ready and eager to do the "work." However, for him, it's not "work," it's enjoyment and doesn't cause stress or lead to burnout. Now, the hours spent are all useful hours. Joe should understand this. He does martial arts because he loves it, not because it's scheduled for him.

  3. Chess has finally found its Kurt Cobain. People who don't even know what an ELO is are watching chess videos of this dude going full on anti-establishment on the chess world. He refused to change his jeans at the 2024 FIDE and was disqualified for it and now he's started up a chess club that's going to bury FIDE and there's a lot more to it but something tells me that he knew exactly what he was doing when he wore jeans.. i mean… he made it on Rogan… that means chess is cool now right?

  4. Just put it this way… if your Chess ELO score was HALF of Magnus ELO, you would be considered a very very strong player that would most likely be the strongest player among everyone they know… that's how different Magnus is…

  5. He understand how you learn. By internal motivation. School don't understand this, they don't learn you how to love to learn, they just dicatate and hope that you learn by external motivation (coercion) Some people can, mediocre ones. But gifted ones shut down then. That's why they are often dropouts.
