In September 2024, Champaign police arrested Chongya Weldon after she was accused of throwing water on a local plant shop owner. When officers came to her home on September 20 to take her into custody, bodycam footage captured a tense exchange in which Weldon strongly objected to the arrest and accused officers of using excessive force. Though the initial allegation involved only the water-throwing incident, Weldon ultimately faced a charge of resisting an officer due to her confrontations during the arrest.
