I hope that it's ok for me to call you Hallie. I was, just today, talking to a security officer about the violence of our youth. I'm a 64 year old Caucasian male. We were talking about how when we were growing up, disagreements would be handled mostly after school on the football field using fists, if it escalated to that point. NOW, it's as though our youth think that the ONLY way to handle a disagreement is through the use of a firearm. I know that I'm saying a lot here, but a lot NEEDS to be said. Let's start at the beginning. Are we as parents NOT spending enough time with our youngsters to show them ALTERNATIVE ways of dealing with these problems? Are we NOT giving our YOUNG people the SUPPORT that they need and deserve when they are bullied or treated badly? And then we get to the firearms. I'm NOT NAIVE enough to think that gun control is the COMPLETE answer. Let's face it. Gun control ONLY is practiced by LAW ABIDING citizens. The BAD people will UNFORTUNATELY ALWAYS find access to guns. But back to our young people. My 1st question is WHERE did the gun come from? HOW did they gain access to it? I think everyone gets my point. The investigation needs to start from the beginning NOT just from the point of the incident. I've probably put some of you to sleep but hopefully I make sense.
