I believe the reason why The Mark turned Dean into a demon is related to how human souls get tortured and twisted into demons after death. Deans soul might have taken a brief trip to hell, then returned. Dean was already quite unique in that he's already experienced horrific torture in hell already, and has experienced way more horror as a human. So, it could be unique to Dean, or The Mark creates a unique torturous experience because the host is tormented against the curse. OR, the Darkness herself is torturing the host because she's imprisoned and desperately wants out. Either way, some kind of torture that The Mark brings definitely twists the host's soul, if this situation wasn't Dean specific.
Immortality is NOT a treat, or gift. It's a curse. Living forever will get boring, and your sanity would deteriorate and your brain would literally be FILLED. Let's say you keep your sanity somehow, now fast forward to the "Heat Death" of the universe. Congratulations, you get to float around forever I an empty universe with nothing. Absolutely nothing. Everything, everyone all GONE. That would be the worst form of hell.
Here's my thoughts on a way to get mortality. If you're in supernatural's world, learn as much magic as you can as varied as you can find the Frankenstein family forced them to tell you everything then fine with the Winchester's buried doc Benton and force him to teach you everything won't be entirely unkillable, but you got them exabove science and magic on your side, you'll be one hell of a problem to kill for anyone that isn't able to just completely remove your soul from your body
One option that i think was missed is the option of becoming a demon. Some demons (mainly Crowley) used to be human and so there must be a way to become a demon. You can obviously be killed as a demon but youll be hatder to kill than a vampire
Honestly? Vampire is the best option. Yes, you can still be killed, but the weaknesses are things you should avoid anyway and the need to feed is honestly easy tk deal with. Ignoring blood bags, i dont belive that Vampire's in Supernatural NEED to kill those they feed on. Just be careful and your peachy.
If a soul can exist without its original body (this is a ghost) and the soul has your consciousness and memories linked (confirmed because the dead maintain their consciousness and memories) in theory you could create a synthetic body that has no soul and use magic to transfer your soul to that body and therefore prolong your life.
