Liked the Star Lost and Quark and Logan's Run.
An excellent review of almost forgotten series… and a real 70s feast too!! 👏👏
Ark 2 and Space Academy were "children's" programming. Sadly, the Ark prop vehicle was poorly built and broke down often for the filming crew. The nose of the vehicle was used in other productions over the years. The whole vehicle was used in the post-nuclear war TV movie "Damnation Alley". That movie starred George Peppard of "A-Team" fame and Jan-Michael Vincent of "Airwolf" fame. I liked that film and suggest a look. The low budget limited what the heroes could do. They tended to offer ethical arguments and pseudo-scientific solutions. Space Academy was supposed to be a school. Which tended to have random discussions about ethics while managing space station operations, being interrupted by the actions of the Warlord heavy. Characters were sent out to stop enemy fighters from blockading a planet or the like. Nothing that looked even close to classroom instruction ever happened. Unless I remember incorrectly, Space Academy was related to another show called "Jason of Star Command". One was a spin-off of the other. I watched Salvage-1 when it was first run. It was a neat idea and could be done better with current-day technology. I always suspected the movie "Astronaut Farmer" stole from this old TV series. These and other shows listed could be remade and done differently. But it has to be by people who understand the source material. Then they have to actually "like" the premise. Modern examples of classic TV remakes seemed very passive-aggressive. "The Dukes of Hazzard" remake is just an example. Casting a couple of guys who you couldn't ever imagine walking into a junk yard is your first clue. Then they cast a boney gal who couldn't deck a rowdy bar patron on a slow night? Come on. The only decent casting choice was Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie. Don't get me started on that "Mod Squad" or "21 Jump Street" crap where those two special needs degenerates played young undercover cops? Apologies to people with Special Needs and actual Police Officers everywhere.
Blake's 7
Two other considerations: Otherworld – about a family that travels through different Earths (ala Sliders) while being pursued by authorities for bringing their personal humanitarianism to help others. Another semi-successful series, The Night Stalker – about a crime newsreporter whose forays into writing about the supernatural are tested (despite The X-Files Chris Carter's reimaginating that totally missed the mark). I could see how a thoughtful investigative reporter could tackle the issues of the hidden underbelly of the paranormal, especially another Mr. RING as an AI construct, could be quite compelling.
You do show clips of that series in this post but don't cover it in the list.
Good grief, your editorializing is horrible.
quark,a clone of Red Dwarf ?
I remember how much I loved Salvage 1. Ark 2, Logan’s Run and Space Academy also were very entertaining. I wouldn’t mind rebooting them
"The Fantastic Journey" was modified a bit in "Sliders". "Sliders" was a good watch.
Wow, its rare to see the StarLost mentioned anywhere.
00:33 The Starlost (1973)
02:04 Ark II (1976)
03:39 Quark (1978)
05:08 Logan's Run (1977)
06:44 The Fantastic Journey (1977)
08:39 Space Academy (1977)
10:24 Salvage-1 (1979)
12:11 Star Maidens (1976)
And I have no idea where the last four of twelve disappeared to!
I remember Logan's Run and Quark, but I was in the Air Force at the time and worked evening shift (4-mdnight) so didn't see much in "prime time"
I totally remember Salvage 1, and this is the first time I have heard anyone talking about it. Loved the show.
Space 1999 and Blake’s 7
