I like gold, but this is not a gold coin standard. Long ago, you could take a $20 Treasury bill into a bank and get a $20 gold coin. Even then, after 1900, the US government had 2.5 times as many $20 bills outstanding as they had $20 gold coins.
This BRIC's nonsense has no real backing, because they will never give you gold. Their currency is backed by nothing. The gold they buy to place in their vaults will not restrain their deficit spending, because they will not allow the markets to work.
