Webinar: Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Regulation Across the United States: Trends & Gaps

Date: March 10, 2025
Presented by: Dr. Adam F. Moskowitz

This webinar is the first of a 2-part series that examines the policies, practices, and injury trends related to Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) across the United States (US).

Since 2006, eleven states in the US have enacted laws regulating SPHM to reduce injury risk to workers and patients in healthcare settings. However, there is great variation in the scope, content, and enforcement mechanisms for these regulations. This presentation uses the hierarchy of controls to characterize SPHM regulation across the US, with attention to gaps in coverage for certain settings and vulnerable working populations.
