TWiV 1174: Clinical update with Dr. Daniel Griffin
In his weekly clinical update, Dr. Griffin deep dives into whether the mysterious respiratory illness in the Congo is malaria, and in conjunction with your host Vincent Racaniello discusses the failure of the poliovirus eradication campaign with virus circulation detected throughout Europe and how we should focus on disease control not virus circulation, then returns to discussing avian influenza in raw milk and the early stoppage of the mpox antiviral Tecovirimat before reviewing the recent statistics on SARS-CoV-2 infection, the WasterwaterScan dashboard, if there is a difference in protection against the development of severe disease between an mRNA or a protein based vaccine, where to find PEMGARDA, and information for Columbia Unversity Irving Medical Center’s long COVID treatment center.

– Who Am I? –
I’m Vincent Racaniello, Earth’s Virology Professor, and I believe that education should be free.
I’m also a professor of virology at Columbia University in New York. I’ve been doing research on viruses since 1976, and teaching virology in classrooms and online since 1999. On this YouTube channel I share videos of my lectures, podcasts, and more.
New videos are uploaded several times each week.

Thanks
Thank you both , so much for your dedication, and all the information you share so freely, Deeply appreciate ..!Merry christmas to you and your families…🎄
Noone should be giving sickness to people at their place of employment. Vincent should stop pushing people to go in while sick! And yes, Covid is different because of long Covid.
Two significant sections discussing polio and vaccines:
07:24 – 16:27
42:57 – 47:16
So informative. Thx you
🎉🎉🎉Thank you
This is another chapter of RFKjr's "As the worm turns"
Thank you, I've missed you all. Telecommunications are in a flux. Coralie from Australia Xxx
Thanks!
Aha but you must also add zinc even ultra low lithium to
make ivermectin work. [ sarcasism PRN ]
No numbers from Palestine, where hospitals and staff are being destroyed under cover of the situation in Syria.
Thanks!
A big thanks to the Drs for the update- Dr Griiffin especially since he has what has to be' very busy 'day job'.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm a complete layperson.
Polio
To me it seems that Polio is a ticking time bomb. Serious disease appears to have been eliminated in most developed countries. But wasterwater tests show that the virus is still present. The IPV insures that serious disease is prevented but NOT asymptomatic infection.
With no vaccinations, some of those asymptomatic cases WILL progress to serious disease.
So the vaccine has lulled us into a false sense of security. It's holding back serious disease, not eliminating the virus. It's not like Smallpox. We need to keep vaccinating.
Have I got that right?
I had raw milk once in my life. It was used to make hot chocolate. The cow in question was a championship cow from the King Ranch. I was about 13 at the time and I knew the risks. But I decided that the cow probably had better health care than I did, so I judged the risk acceptable. I didn't suffer any of the ill effects commonly linked to raw milk. But I did notice that the thickening if the mucus in my throat sinuses got worse than I usually got from milk. This lead me to wonder if heat altered whatever I was getting a low-level allergic reaction to when I drank milk. I mentioned this to my mother, who suggested I tests myself with scalded milk. Success, no reaction. So I quit drinking milk for the next 40 years. One day on a strange whim I decided to have some frosted flakes. It had been a favorite and it had been decades… The only milk available was ultra pastured lactose free milk. No reaction. I tried lactase drops with regular milk. Thick gunk again. So whatever it is, ultra pasteurization destroys it. I wonder if I will ever know what it is that I am allergic to…
Since you have significant input on polio I've posted links to this on Bluesky
Ivermectin is a floor wax AND a desert topping! (apologies to SNL)
I wouldn’t prejudice RFK until he’s on the job. He has a large bureaucracy to learn about much less adjust policy.
Surely there’s a good supply of competent apolitical knowledgeable people at his disposal to seek advice right??
If not then it’s far worse than I ever imagined.
Ivermectin: A Multifaceted Drug With a Potential Beyond Anti-parasitic Therapy "…The role of ivermectin as an anti-inflammatory agent has only recently been understood. This is an integral part of its use as an antihelminthic agent. Ivermectin is now known to play an immunomodulatory role that suppresses inflammatory responses in humans .."
That ivermectin one! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If SARS COV2 is a temperature sensitive virus,at high body temperature can be a defective virus.
Some temperature sensitive viruses can induce persistent infections.(?)
Maybe If SARS COV2 more spread ,risk of mutations , retromutation and recombinations increase.
