  1. I always thought I was lucky because I was attacked as well by a stranger when I was 16 and I fought back hard. I was lucky because I had on leggings that were so tight the attacker had given up trying to get them off. I was hit a lot but I feel grateful for being left alive. I'm so sorry for Jesse. Rip

  2. I’ve been taught that the only way to survive an attempted assault is to accept that, in order to get away, you are going to get hurt. Obviously, Melissa already knew that. I would hope I could behave as cleverly, but I don’t see myself grabbing a knife blade. I probably would have clawed his hands and that is less likely to have saved me.

I urge everyone out there to think about what you would do. Rule number 1. Never let the assaulter take you to a more private place and rule number 2. Be prepared to get hurt to prevent it. More private place = death. Standing your ground in a public place probably means getting hurt, but it’s better than death. Peace to Jesse and her family 🙏🏻

  3. One thing I can never get out of my mind… She had a student coming to learn from her and instead learned she was murdered… I feel for her family and her and that probably very confused kid. That would mess me up even if i didn't know her well.

  4. I have been to that town. Its the perfect middle America calm and safe place. Its like being in the Back to Future ' town. So that makes it more a story. You could not be more middle America.

  5. You related the story very well. Such a pity the girl was unalived and her mum – her poor mum on finding her body. Something every parent should never see. Thank you

  6. I’m a dad of three girls. The picture of them at the river is incredibly heartbreaking. Right when I saw that photo I thought, “That’s the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen.”, because I know it’s true.
My heart goes out to him and to every father who has lost a daughter.

  7. I finally gave in and followed after a few days of watching you. The fact that this video is 2 yrs old and I love the then and now shows the great job you're doing!!

  8. I can never understand how oblivious some people are, when im in public if its even a remotely dodgy or empty place i am very aware of everyone around me at all times, and im not a small guy. people act like the world owes them 100% safety at all times

  9. Oh my god the end, I’m driving and had to pull over because I was crying so much. How devastating. Her poor parents. I can’t imagine their grief and sadness. Parents having to bury their children always feels like a dagger to my heart.

May your heart rest easy sweet Jesse. Your legacy is one of love strength and kindness, an inspiration to us all. ❤

  10. This breaks my heart…
Ladies, Trust but Verify. It's an old army say. There is nothing wrong with trusting the people around you, BUT NEVER TRUST SOMEONE SO MUCH YOU EVER LET YOUR GUARD DOWN!
ALWAYS KEEP SHARP POINTING THING ON YOU AROUND YOU NEAR YOU! SCRATCH AS HARD AS YOU CAN WHEN BEING ATTACKED, PROTECT YOURSELF AS BEST YOU CAN, ALWAYS FIGHT BACK ALWAYS!!!
Take self defense classes there are a lot free or near free in every state.

  11. What a Great Ballentine's Day! Thank You MrBallen! And Thank You John Ballen For Your Service! You definitely went beyond the call of duty and I am lucky that I found your show MrBallen!!!
