  1. I think it's a spectrum, the best place to be us somewhere in the middle, like with most things. The growth may provide you with dedication, the self-expression with self-actualization. Actualization may then in turn fuel the dedication, which deepens the desire for actuation. Positive feedback loop, something I'm only finding out recently, and it's working better for me than anything else.

  2. I just discovered your channel the other day and have been really appreciating your videos, especially this one. As others have said, this perspective applies to so many aspects of life. I've been drumming for 38 years. The first 30 years were focused on getting better. But now with a family, career and other commitments, the time it takes to "get better" just isn't available. I've learned in this stage of life it's more about drumming for the joy of it. I still learn things here and there, but only if the learning process brings me joy. I celebrate those who push the boundaries of drumming, like Matt Gartska & others, but there's a freedom in simply enjoying what they do rather than feeling the need to surpass them. Thanks again!

  3. Great video. At the end of the day, it's really about doing something that feels meaningful to you, following your personal purpose. If you want to push yourself to the limit in something like bodybuilding or powerlifting, go for it. But if it's just a hobby, not your ultimate true passion, comparing yourself to people at the top and seeking constant growth is rather silly. Once it starts negatively impacting other aspects of your life – if it isn't what's truly most important to you, be content with and proud of what you've achieved, and move on to something new.

  4. Wise words Adam, i like your perspective on fitness its refreshing i watch your videos for few years now and its still something new i learn, im glad i found your channel 🙂

  5. Very well said, Adam. I would add that once you reach a certain age, expecting to get stronger or faster simply isn't realistic, and your goal should become to maintain your level. And some years later, you goal should be to decline as slowly as possible. I'm 43 and firmly in the latter phase 🙂

  6. Awesome video.

My thoughts are a correct growth mindset isn't one that is doing something at all costs. It's directed, purposeful, and tempered with constant introspection. If someone wants massive biceps, has gotten to their natural limit, studied the risks of taking PEDS, and makes an informed decision then so be it. While it's not a healthy choice its at least an informed one.

Seeking growth in any area of life with no purpose, introspection, and making decisions based off of emotional reactions is what leads to problems.

  7. More water on my mills, thanks! 👍I love to express myself through inventing new exercise alternatives and implements and making carefully edited videos about them. If someone else finds them useful – great. And if nobody does – also not a problem.
