Rarely disagree with Joe Rogan, a very knowledgeable martial artist in his own right. He is 100% correct that Aikido is ineffective in a real combat situation. Aikido was not developed for the Samurai, but much Later by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) in the 20's or 30's. The original art commonly practiced by the Samurai warriors was akin to Aki Jujitsu.

Was looking who is this joe Rogan, talking like he knows so much. Ohh MMA commentator that explains it. Jesse Enkamp made an interview with segal a few years ago. You can see how he fights there. And no it's not the standard Aikido as we see in most videos online. You might redicule him and aikido as a style, but it's simply because you know very little of it, and very few uses it in MMA. And yes MMA has rules now a day that makes it hard, not impossible, but hard, to use aikido in. Break joints, poke eyes, ears etc. is not allowed any longer, but those are the principle in aikido, use means to pacify attacking people. And i know that people will give me shit for writing this, because there are more effective attack styles out there, aikido isnt an attack style, however what segal practice is.
