The FIRST Road Trip In the VW ID.Buzz Was…A TOTAL Train Wreck, And Here’s Why!

After trading in our Tesla Cybertruck for a brand-new Volkswagen ID.Buzz, the first point of order was to road trip it back from the dealer in Pennsylvania to Colorado. The experience was…less than ideal, for a few different reasons.

  1. Gotta love all the Tesla haters claiming EA is getting better… lol😂 EA is a pile of crap… VW has been actively trying to sell it for years but no one is stupid enough to buy it, so the last thing they want to do is dump more money into it! And with VW being 190 billion dollars in debt, they don’t have the money to build out / improve the network!!!

  2. I've been super excited about the ID Buzz, but after having a negative EV experience, I've decided it's not for me. For the past 3 weeks I've been driving an electric BMW around LA while my gas car has been in the shop. While the car itself is awesome when charged, the charging experience has been really inconvenient. I recently drove from NorCal to SoCal, and charging added a lot of time and stress to the trip compared to using my gas car. Yesterday I spent 40 minutes charging at an EVgo station, with a woman waiting behind me the entire time. When I finished, she finally got my spot and started charging. Think about how much time she wasted at that station in total… Really inconvenient. Made me appreciate my gas car, even with CA gas prices

  3. This country's infrastructure is not set up or ready for pure EV vehicles. Hybrids, and plug-in hybrids are still the best choice. Even a super tiny 115hp emergency back up engine would be enough to quell the range anxiety with evs.

  4. Miles behind Tesla. Tesla won't route you a SC location where the chargers are down (and will find an alternate location if all the SCs are occupied). I watch movies right on my display when charging. I can choose from Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ etc.. The Tesla will also tell you when you have enough charge to make it to the next SC so you don't have to waste time always charging to 80 or 100%. $45 for an additional 140 miles of range is WAY more expensive than an ICE minivan that gets 25mpg. To go 140 miles the ICE minivan would take 5.6 gallons of gas which would be about $20. So it costs TWICE as much to operate the ID4 using those charging stations. If you picked up 70kWh then you were being charged $0.64/kWh at that charger which is 50% more than a Tesla SC. Tesla Navigation also provide a % State Of Charge remaining at your next stop which reduces anxiety.

  5. I work at a Peterbilt dealer in up state NY and had to drive a fully electric Peterbilt truck to Syracuse, ny to a Highway & public work show. On the way back to my town, which was about 156 miles away and only had about 1/2 charge left. I did not take thruway back because of lack of changing stations.. so mind youthe truck only gets 150 range fully changed. I stopped at at least different changing stations. I only found 1 that would work and it was at a town hall in a small town. And it was not that easy to get a big truck in there .All the changers out do not recognize big trucks. So 45 minits later on the phone with changing station people to get to work.and I sat for 3hrs and it only changed 30 % at 57kw . It was a 350kw changer.

  6. All about the location, and planning ahead. The CannonBall Run cross country world record was just broken again.. In a NON Tesla, Porsche Taycan… NYC to LA.. in 39.5 hours. TOTAL. including charging time. But he is right the infrastructure SUCKS in some areas.. others is pretty great.
If you road trip a lot, and want the least number of hassles, buy a Tesla or at least an EV than can use Tesla SC with an adapter.

  7. Have you guys heard of this amazing new technology that solves this problem. Two Brothers from Dayton Ohio invented it. Why are people driving all over the country in cars of any fuel type? The furthest I drive is to the airport, LOL.

  8. I feel sorry for old people trying to use technology (talking about the guy on this video). Yes, EV chargers need to get much better, but it's a billion times worse when old and have a hard time keeping up with technology. Good thing he had a crew with him. Best just to let the older generation stick with ICE vehicles.

  9. First electric vehicle was in 1891. Didn't fly then, so what makes people think it makes sense now. You must have more $$$ than good sense. Apparently you don't keep up with all the other failures of long trip EVs on YouTube

  10. And I love hours they fell by being pleasant, that makes it ok. Don’t roll out a product if you aren’t ready. EA is a huge fail! The network should be constantly communicating status to its vehicles so it doesn’t lead you astray.

  11. The range on this vehicle surprised me. I liked this car when it was unveiled. I still like the look. But when you talk about $80K, I would expect a range of 350 miles (500 kms) at least. Also, I would use different apps when owning an EV, and trying to find a charging station, like Plugshare.
