I was surprised when I couldn't find even promo videos, for BEAT. It's the best German series I've seen on Prime Video. Binged watched it in one day.

The best movie about Berlin you forgot somehow. Schwarze Schafe / Black Sheeps.
For me it is by far the movie that gives you the perfekt Berlin vibes. If you haven't seen it already, you have to do.
What about Balloon made in 2018 and set in 1979 where two families from Thuringia make two attempts to escape East Germany by a home made balloon. But they also try to escape by going to East Berlin and visiting the US embassy there in secret. They book hotel rooms at the top of a tall hotel near the Berlin Wall and from there are able to see into West Berlin.
I remember that night in 1989 where East Germans were allowed into West Berlin to gain a taste of freedom but had to return to East Berlin hours later. They had all saved up lots of money as there wasn't much to buy in East Germany because prices were deliberately kept low so there were shortages of everything. My mother being a Tory voter was so excited to see the fall of the Berlin Wall and communism in Eastern Europe but I was a bit worried for them wondering how they would cope with capitalism. Especially in Russia and East Germany. Not so much in Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary.

** – I actually learned a thing or two regarding interrogation (if the suspect is guilty, he will keep repeating the same story over and over)
*** – Great movie, I should rewatch it I guess
**** – Small 'artsy' movie that somehow left me with the impression I had seen it three times instead of only once
***** – American tv-movie but starring mostly Germans and shot in Germany, though not in Berlin I guess (the bridge scene is rather chilling)
-> While looking up Horst Buchholz his bio, I found that he was born in Berlin. A few other German actors were also born in Berlin, while actress playing the protagonist's girlfriend, Ute Christensen, was born in East Germany. Coincidence?
I don't know where Der Tatortreiniger is set, but it's one of my all time favourite tv shows 🙂

Great review. Saving for future reference. I loved Beat, but like so many of these series, it was cut short. Such a shame. Every film is made better with Berlin as a backdrop. Loving ya dude.

Rocky also. A story about a Berliner who lost his way in the Techno scene. He becomes broke and starts boxing and meats his love in Berghain. Dude how come you did not include this classic.
How about Rambo. Well, it's not situated in Berlin, but hell yeah he is a Berliner.

Best documentary is "B Movie; Lust and Sound in West Berlin". It's about the 80s punk and goth music scenes. Absolutely essential viewing.
Here are some other German movies based in Berlin that are really good and have a good soundtrack. "Atomic Blonde" and "Run Lola Run", with Franke Potente. Based in Berlin I think. And they play techno music throughout the movie! Keep up the good work on the YT videos.
