  1. Thank you for showing this excellent technical test: In addition to the response graphs and other technical data on the datasheets, the real proof of truth is always one:
    Direct listening!

In this test it is evident the great superiority of the OLD model ,the Celestion G15M-50 (1972)…..!

  2. For my live rig I went from 2 Marshall 1960 cabs to 2 Celestion 15” Fullback! I mounted the speakers in 2 Community Monitors. I wanted a tilt back to help keep my cabs off the sound man so I could crank a little more and using them in Stereo with My Headrush sounds amazing.

  3. Well done comparison. In this recording, I prefer the Greenback. The highs are a bit much on the Fullback, for my tastes. The Greenback sits right in the pocket.

  4. No offense, but they sound pretty different. The 15" greenback has way more top end. Non the less, I like both and they both sound great in their own way. Although I would probably prefer the greenback

  5. I think The point of the fullback, and of Johan's fullback demos, is not that it sounds like a typical 15 (or like the old celestion 15).
I think the whole point is that a single fullback sounds more than a little like a Vintage 4-12 cabinet, and remarkably good compared most any 1-12 combo.

.-it's not the same as a 4×12, but it's in clearly that direction, with a bigger and deeper voice- and 'faster' response than other 15's. .
    – it doesn't sound as deep or wooly (or low volume) as weber or jensen or eminence 15's . – it's actually sounds much more like two or more vintage G12's

So, I got a new DSL40* just to have/show a fullback in a small combo amp, right? and it works great, – a recognizable amount of 'vintage 4×12' cabinet sound. at a lower volume, from a single speaker.
    thanx
    * it did require did elaborate machinging of the cabinet and baffle-( to keep the stock grillcloth inplace , and to locate the speaker lower down in the cabinet -to have enough room to change the tubes)

  6. Yes I agree fully, I just built myself two Fullback cabs during lockdown and I just played the first gig with them, awesome!!
They sound very much like the Greenbacks bigger brother with the same glorious topend, even more 'throaty' midrange and that big confident lowend 'flapping you trousers' as Greg Koch says…

  7. I think Celestion owes you for this video. I've been using one of these in a 1×15 cab with a Traynor YBA-1 and is hard to imagine any better rock tone without stepping up to a 4×12. I'm just surprised this speaker hasn't popped up in more or your videos/comparisons since you liked it so much (I did see the one with the DSL combo). I'd like to see the fulback in a vid vs various 12" speakers!

  8. I love 15's. My two favorite combos at home are both 1×15 – a Traynor YBA-4 and an Ampeg Gemini II. This video made me realize something…..my dream cab would be a 2×15 convertible back. I think I just might have to put together a custom one with two of these in it.

  9. Hi Johann, Saw this video way back and am finally pondering a fullback again. Have you used the speaker more/ made other fullback videos? What are your thoughts if you have had more playing time in years since this video?

  10. Do you recomend open back cab OVER closed back cab for the fullback? I bought one that came with a closed back insulated car audio style cab. I could change to an open back or convertible if that would suit it better
