With all the satellite surveillance, advanced cams, drones, security systems, heat signature devices, NVGs……I find it impossible that they exist anywhere near humans, if at all anymore.

Some of these so called experts are completely incompetent. The owner of the van that was mauled had cats and some were missing… Cats will hide under vehicles, in the wheel wells, and even climb up into the engine compartment trying to hide from dogs or anything trying to attack them. I don't know if it was a dog or not but I do know someone that had a large pit bull mix that would attack vehicles he wasn't familiar with while they were pulling in or out of the driveway and flattered quite a few tires over the years, a couple were thick truck tires. Which ended up being how he found his end when his teeth became lodged and his neck was twisted and broken.
You'd be surprised what kind of damage a very large and angry dog can inflict.
