Update. I am homeless and too broke for straps. Fuck it. Mind over matter.
Unless as last set arms completely apart, then leaning back 45° makes sense to get the 90° to the rod.
But obviously not for normal lat pulls!

when i do that exercise i fell it in my arms not my back
i used to do a thumbless grip, but my gym replaced the bar with a stupid fucking spinning one, so now i have to wrap my thumbs around it to keep it stable. wonder if people who made it ever stepped foot in a gym
