RON GOING OLD SCHOOL SLING TOWING A MAJOR CRASH!!!
Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! Today, I forced to go “Old-School” and perform a “chain sling” tow on a heavily damaged tractor, power unit, after it has been involved in a major crash. Everyone has days where things go smoothly. And, everyone has days that don’t go quite so smooth and everything seems to be difficult. In this video, I do get frustrated, because this truck just seems to be fighting me every step of the way. However, I press forward to get the job done. I have to “check my attitude” and put myself back into a positive mood. We all have bad days. This was still a good day, just challenging. Hey, I’m human… Anyway, as you can see, what’s left of this day cab Peterbilt is in terrible shape. I take our Peterbilt 337 with a Miller Industries Century 4024 towing and recovery unit to tow this thing to another shop where it will be used for parts. Hopefully, this will prove interesting as this is not a typical hookup that you get to see on my channel. Could I have done it differently? Absolutely, but I got it done safely and that’s what matters. “There are multiple ways to reach 10”. If our TrailEze TE801 trailer had been available, I would have called for it or gone back to the shop, got it, and loaded this heap onto the trailer rather than going through all this process, but, I made it work. Thank you, God, for blessing our family and our business. Watch as we continue to receive God’s blessings. There is much more to come!!! I hope you enjoy this video!!!
We have a difficult and dangerous job and we take it very seriously, that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun and enjoy our work. We strive to be polite, professional, efficient, and safe…and still can have fun. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, “there are many ways to reach 10”. I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, and, as always, thank you for watching. Quite a few people have suggested that I should have used our semi and TrailEze trailer to haul this on rather than towing it. I made the statement that I would have used the TrailEze, but it was out on another job. The TrailEze trailer is what I would have preferred to use. I stated this in the description of the video, verbally in the video, and I wrote it on the screen during the video. Yes, using the TrailEze would have made the job much easier, but I was raised to use what was available to get the job done. I was there with a truck capable of handling the job. It was up to me and whether I had the knowledge and skill to make it work. Hopefully, this video is viewed more for the problem solving aspect rather than how it could have been done differently. As I always say, "there are multiple ways to reach 10". My first option, wasn't an option, so I made it work with what I had. Thanks for watching and God bless.
@RonPratt so just a thought when i have slung in the past with totally clapped like you did i would run the 20ft grade 100 and i would go from the cab mounts and cross them behind the oil pan and that would hold everything in place. But like you said lot of ways to get to 10.
Thanks for providing me some entertainment as a former HEAVY, Towing and Recovery operator. Unfortunately, I’m no longer in your business due to a near fatal, massive stroke that has put me on the sidelines of doing the job that I once loved as I continue to recover. Your attention the details and expertise is amazing. I wish I had you as my mentor when I originally started Towing and Recovery the early 20 years ago.
God Bless you Ron and your family and all of your families involved with your business.
Hey Ron you forgot to strap the steering wheel ha ha what a fight to the end and have a great Merry Christmas to you and everyone there we love you and thank God for you
Eat the elephant one bite at a time 😆😆😆
I love the videos Ron and i have been watching for 7 years ❤
Another awesome video, I love watching your videos, as an auto mechanic the tow guys are so under appreciated but they are the main ones keeping the work flowing. Side note my wife heard your intro music when I put it on the tv and she came running in excited to see your video, and with your clean content even my one year old sits and watches with us, thanks and god bless!!!
Yeah, Ron, some days we all get to ride the struggle bus. Good job with what you had to work with.
I usually see your videos on Monday if memory serves. Glad to see one at an odd time.
That truck took a heck of a ride. I love this channel and watching/learning from a master

Interesting challenge. But mission accomplished. Not every thing in life goes as we hope or plan for them to go, however it is how we overcome the obstacles that reflect our real abilities. All ways enjoy your videos. STAY SAFE OUT THERE.
46:30 The moment you call anything "simple" or "easy" in the transportation industry, it in fact will quite often go the other way.
Rule of thumb: never ever address any job as such. It's like going into a quiet ER and stating how quiet it is
I appreciate so far seeing you keep a fairly level head during this ordeal. 49:52 Yes, it's definitely frustrating, but the moment you let anger and impatience take over, it's when people get hurt.
Hello Ron, Is there ever anything straight forward in a tow job. If it is not one thing it is another. I drove tow truck, a regular local truck.
Hope you got your strap off the driveshaft.
A little Shakespeare there. To lift or not to lift, that is the question.
Had you known it was going to be that much fun you'd have given the job to Ethan. j/k
Did you forget the two most important rules? If it's supposed to move WD-40, if it's not supposed to move, duct tape. So, wrap the engine with duct tape then tape it to the lift and you're good to go. But I guess your way works too even if it is a lot of work. For safety purposes use the "CAUTION" tape. Nice hammer work too, that's how we used to start my car except we beat the starter instead of the brakes. If it breaks loose the only thing it's going to do is implant itself into the dirt, asphalt, concrete or whatever else is beneath it.
😂😂 it’s always the easy jobs that are the most difficult… hope you remembered the drive shaft !! Didn’t see you remove it 🤷🏻♂️❤
Not saying this as a negative comment. Love everything you do and i appreciate all the videos you put out. But next time you are in this situation with another truck like this. Wouldn't you be able to put it on a low boy trailer so you don't have to worry about dragging it behind you, without having to worry about the chains or frame coming undone? while you are driving down the road
Great work of a not so great situation.
Making it work with what you have. Yes probably a trailer would have been easier but then it needs a rotator to load/unload and rapidly the job doesnt make any money
Ron at 36:15 "I think I've used so much chain that I'll have to check my center of gravity!"
When I see that much damage I think of two words: Flat Bed. 🙂 EDIT: 10 min later Ron commented he would rather have used a trailer too!
In instances like this you have to methodical when you put things away or you
will forget something. You use so much equipment to keep the tow from falling
apart on the road.
More views more videos please post more thank you
i got to say i love watching this channel and am from the uk and do love the 18 wheelers keep up the great work to all the midwest truck and love from the uk
I suggest you do your video intro descriptions outside of your vehicle rather than inside. When you do it inside, it tends to cause issues with YouTube's automatic captioning resulting in no subtitles whatsoever.
Oh wow.. what a mess.
I love what you are doing mat and I love you trucks
😊🎉
Hmmm…… Where is your apprentice Ron?? Ethan surely is your #1 replacement…. but he's got some REALLY big shoes to fill!!!
rotator, spread a bar semi
At what point does it become cheaper for the customer for you to bring the rotator and a flatbed/lowboy? [edit] And then I see that you considered it, and didn't have the equipment available.
Another great video Ron mate complicated bit of chain work to get it right for yourself great job
Great video Ron! Enjoyed watching it. Be nice if you had a dual axle roll back bed truck you can haul trucks on like this one you was towing,
Trailer would of been quicker
That was a heck of a haul. Not a lot to hook to. Great work!
Ron, you give a new meaning to "if there is a will there is a way". Your perseverance is 2nd. to none. Being a maintenance man for over 40 years, the big joke was "if you can't get it loose get a bigger hammer". Beautiful dog, they can tell better than people if you are good or not, you win, you are a good person with a good heart.
Aren't you glad it was you instead of one of the younger people who may not know how to do it safely, but tried anyway.
You did a great job
That should have been a rotator job and put on low deck trailer
amazing ron😊
It’s always the jobs that are supposed to be straight and easy that give us the most problems
Low boy trailer, sorry😊
Great job ! Now just have to get all the chains back ! LOL
I would of called for the cowboy trialer, lol😊
Love the videos keep them coming
I hope you are charging time 🤔😲
