  1. I am not surprised by any of the stuff Microsoft does to be honest… they don't know how to build things. I am not talking about Xbox here, I mean the whole of Microsoft. They never actually built anything good. All they do is buy people and companies who built something and then integrate it and by doing that they more often than not ruin it. They had a fluke with the original Windows and they are living on the money from that fluke ever since. The fact that Phill Spencer openly says that he wants to buy Nintendo tells you everything you need to know… they don't even consider the option to build their own Nintendo in house. Spend the time and effort to do it. No, they only want to buy, not build. I have no ill will against Xbox… but I just cannot stand Microsoft as a whole.

  2. Saying Yasuke "not the kind of character you'd expect to see fronting a samurai game … but he's actually a real historical figure" doesn't really do the problem with him justice. And isn't quite fair to any Japanese fans. Stretching and misrepresenting a historical sidenote to fulfil the expectations of just one small group in another country?

I wouldn't expect the weekly video game news to become very political, but brushing off this controversy so quickly is a bit disingenious.

  3. Sonys lower profits arent that much from development costs but from console production (selling bellow production cost). Those crazy triple A costs exist for other companies and heck unlike some all big expensive sony titles profited- they had no suicide squads and such.

  4. Dude wtf with the people who think that you traveling is a flex, if it is personal or for work good for you, if you bought a new house, or a sports car or a nice watch or whatever good for you, why are people so sensitive about what others do? Especially when you say it in the most casual and unpretentious way possible. Having said that, that Australia joke was gold lol

  5. I have to stop watching you bro. The fact that you have been a gamer for so long and you didn't realize the main point behind that Nintendo/Sony Profit chart just absolutely blows my mind. Guess the truth doesn't fit with your sheepish narrative.

  6. What? Sony might not be as big as Microsoft but it certainly isn't just a videogame company, it is one of the biggest electronics companies first and foremost that also happens to make videogames, so hell yeah they could certainly draw water from that well if they are in trouble. They're mammoth. It isn't like "Oh poor Sony is always struggling" They have been leading the videogame industry since I have memory and honestly although they aren't reaching their profit margins that is just nowhere near being in serious trouble, far from it.

  7. Imagine being mad at someone for traveling for their job. FFS don't apologize for that, don't explain, don't even recognize the complaints, tell thouse stupid reddit losers to touch grass and move on.

  8. Star Control II might be the greatest video game ever made. If you like games, play it and understand. The fact that Ford and Reiche are finally making a true sequel is gaming news of the highest import. It isn't breaking news, as they've been working on it for a while, but it deserves more than a blurb, and the fact that it has basically no hype is truly tragic. No game has been more of a labor of love than SC2. The devs actually ran out of money before it was done and spent months working on it out of pocket for someone else to publish (Accolade). I guarantee this upcoming game is being made with the same heart. Give the Retronauts episode about it a listen to get a sense of how much it is beloved by those who have played it.

  9. 18:12 uHm AcKsHuAlLy from recent memory he was a playable character in Samurai Warriors 5.

But to be fair nobody plays any of the Warriors games nowadays, Koei Tecmo fumbled the ball hard with recent releases so it's quite understandable.

  10. Your data of 77% of Playstation games is digital game purchases is inaccurate, that was in q4 and for the year it is 70%, and typically quarter 4 and quarter 1 have higher digital sales figures. 30% of all games sold by Sony are physical which is just below a third of all games. Id say thats still a sizeable amount and enough to carry a physical option later on.

  11. @SkillUp Not sure if you will see this comment, but anyhows FWIW, one thing I hear often from you on your commentary about Xbox vis-a-vis Microsoft is that you often speak about the relationship between the two as though the revenue situation w.r.t. the rest of Microsoft is something that Phil Spencer has access to as his piggybank…

But pretty sure that is not how it works! The other parts of Microsoft draws down heavily on their revenue to make their own investments building out costly data centers to ride the AI wave. Xbox itself needs to be profitable as a division, especially if it has previously drawn down on Microsoft's cash balance to go on its acquisition spree, independent of what the P&L situation at the rest of Microsoft is. In another words, it needs to show a positive ROI on the capital expenditures previously made, or otherwise it will face pressure as a public company from its shareholders to make it profitable one way or the other (by cutting expenses if it is not able to grow revenue) – or to shutdown otherwise.

This is one thing that your recent commentary and perspective frequently get wrong IMHO.

  12. Wayfinder is what happens when everyone tries to go live service and loot people… Trust me more games are going to shutter because of the live service aspects.

  13. Gamer nerds like this Skill Up specimen remain wilfully ignorant about the bloat that DEI hiring policies have created in development houses.

There are gays, colours and females being hired into non-productive positions specifically because they are gay, coloured or female.

Companies that were formally profitable are now not because of DEI.

Many of these "programmers" who are losing their jobs didn't do anything in the first place.

  14. Wait till you find out who the writer and producer for the tomb raider show oh and she's no longer a tomb raider btw. It was ruined before it ever had a chance.

  15. I have to say that people keep talking about Sony's lack of profit/projected sales forecast etc and it's doom and gloom, but look at Microsoft/XBOX. There's something going on at XBOX right now and it isn't good. Over spending at a time where sales of XBOX consoles are extremely poor? 75 billion dollars spent on potentially 2 games? Looking at Sarah Bond's body language and what she's not saying in between the lines, something major is brewing. I have no idea what that is because we're talking about a company who we're told is worth 3 trillion dollars? Businesses don't move to the latest Windows operating systems and that causes a huge amount of loss for Microsoft as well. If a company is on Windows 10, do they really need to move to 11 or 12? Same thing goes for their Microsoft Applications Suites.
