  1. Loved the grandson, intelligent, polite, good worker, reliable and had a kind heart. Felt sorry for his grandmother. To go through this short life never knowing what it's like to have a husband that can see your qualities and admire you for them. And she did have many good qualities. I have a feeling; she never heard the words "I love you honey and appreciate you". Bruce Dern is a good actor; he played the part of a curmudgeon well. I have seen him in a lot of westerns when he was young. Plays a bad man well.

  2. This movie will not cheer you up. But neither will it let you down . 2024 has been a time of anxiety for me because now I know where we are going.
    I was glad to escape to 1952 when everything was simple .
    And understandable.

  3. What a dysfunctional family. Fathers are supposed to be loving servants of their families, mothers nurturing of children and respectful of their husbands. I stopped watching. I deal with enough dysfunctional families!

  4. 🌷She asked Tut to get down from the tree …then said: “I sat out here sometimes … sometimes in Fall or Springtime… sometimes I could hear wild geese that had lost their mates… they circle around at night calling, not even aware of what’s missing, just… that it is missed.”
    ~~~ Living in an empty lonely marriage… is not easy.
  5. I wish another director had taken this project, or someone heavily involved, perhaps the story's originator or director, whomever, had allowed a little more artistic license.
    The plot's fine, but good acting seemed overshadowed by poor pacing. The rhythm is a struggle, practically non-existent, without space between hurried line delivery.
    Someone should remake this, make it better. It just wasn't a story fully realized in the context of a movie. It was fairly laborious to watch.
    Thanks for offering it up though.
  6. Vermont is now the state of Bernie & Ben & Jerry. It is Stalinist: there is a 17 month wait for a new dishwasher. In 1956 Vermont was still America. A guy takes a guy's cow; the guy takes the guy's ax.
    People gush over Bruce Dern. He kind of weaseled his way through a few good movies in a 156 year career. He produced one good daughter. Who's the other guy — Ned Beatty? Might as well be the same guy. Beta males who weaseled into many movies.
    This movie recreated a time and place reasonably well and delivered the pleasant surprise that Genevieve Bujold was alive as recently as 2013. She should be forgiven for shooting ONE skier after all this time.
    Overall, not too bad, albeit very patronizing.
  7. Can't say I'd ever choose to watch this movie again, but after watching I went and gave my hubby a hug and brought him a cup of tea without him asking me first. Life is short and the quote "….time passed is always present…." struck a chord with me.
    Be the me I want people to remember. They will remember who I WAS to them, not who I wish I had been.
  8. Liberals – so deluded and enarmoroured with themselves – I doubt whether Bruce and Genevieve are much different in real life. The young boy is the only bearable character.
