I'm pretty certain that this song killed Cobain after what followed because of it being released on their biggest album. The problem for me is that I've read all of his diary, and I know how fucked up Cobain really was. We all treat him like a hero, but he was actually a really terrible person that couldn't fix the terrible shit that he did as a kid. This song, and what happened while people sung it doing the most abhorrent things to someone, rang true in the head of a very confused man. I don't think Cobain was murdered…I think he couldn't take his own songs that he made at times that he thought it was appropriate. His music may be ambiguous to all of us, but it wasn't to him, and he was tired of having to sing songs that made him feel like a piece of shit.
