Why not just remove the red lever/button, but keep the spring? It’s then still going to seal up, you just don’t have to do the press the red butting juggle.
Nice video. Exactly what i needed. Thanks.
I/m so glad I came across this old post. I don't think I've laughed so hard in my life! While you are holding down the black plastic piece WITH YOUR THUMB, you mutter, "……you gotta hold it with your thumb….a lot of pressure". HEY GENIUS, that black plastic thing you are holding down with your thumb IS WHAT CATCHES ON THE LIP OF THE GAS TANK filler tube!!!!!!!!!! The weight of the full gas can EASILY pushes the spring down and gas flows very fast into the tank. What ever made you think you were supposed to try to hold down that black plastic piece WITH YOUR THUMB? Oh my god, that spring is soooo stiff, I bet your thumb was ready to retire! Thanks for the laughs. I'm too lazy to scroll through all the comments but, please tell me, I can't be the only one that got a good laugh out of this?
Thanks. I'm using the small blue cans for water. Made the spout adequate for securing and pouring water.
This can also be done by depressing the top and wrapping it with duct tape
Everything the Government put there hands on turns to crap, they can't even make a proper spout to pour gas.
There stupid inventions waste more gas than just having a reg. pour spout.
Have you started a fire yet????? Lol hahaha……. Thanks for posting 👍
Omg. You want easy with these stupid new nozzles? Throw them out buy a funnel lol these nozzles suck
The O ring needs the spring to make it stop leaks. If you are too weak to compress the spring, just take it out and use side cutters to remove a few coils. Repeat until the spring is weak enough for you.
i think these spouts are from the EPA deciding we can't vent gas fumes . the horror.
Thank you so much for the video. I have spilled more gas using these “safety spouts” than I spilled in the decades before they were required.
The spring removal took 1 minute and I will test the tank by filling up my lawnmower tomorrow.
This design is the WORST. I have always hated this type of spout… it is simply terrible. I just accidentally (by necessity, actually, because this is the only type can I can find in my town) bought one of these, but now I'm going to modify it before I use it. Thanks for creating this video!
Excuse me sir are you perhaps dumb? You don’t need to hold it with your thumb. You can use the weight of the can… like it’s designed…
Thx. Common sense is what the people are missing today.
Threw out my damn back (I'm in my 30s) expecting this to work intuitively. Wasn't going anywhere near it again without researching it. This should do it, though!
This spout is no good. Spills all over , you name it.. JUNK..
Absolutely stupid, asinine and silly design. Im a woman with RA, so if a strong and healthy man like you cant hold the damned spout in to pour how do they propose for people like me to do so. Also gas cans have gone up in price considerably what a shame, everyone's in on the new F0ck the american people craze. $25 can which is hard to use, with a stupid filter inside preventing fill up of the can, making you spill half on the ground while pumping, the the other half while trying to fill ur car or tool. All this while gas cost us $4.59 at the pumps as of 3/9/22. Who in the hell patented this garbage design and WHY? Child proof and adult proof!!!
When it’s cold, these cans can’t be used by weak and/or arthritic hands.
So, I just don’t give a flying turd.
I take the whole top of the can off, and just pour it into the tank.
Sure, I spill some. Maybe even a lot.
And I care about the environment.
But I hate governmental stupidity even more.
Thank you for the tutorial!
Has anyone located a replacement cap for these cans? Note that I am talking just a cap, and not a spout. I'd rather not deal with the spouts at all when I do my pickup runs. It's too easy to lose one of those little dust caps.
These part of the cap you have to press to open the cap … I just got done sniping it off with an old pruning shear / nipper. Let some air in so maybe the 2nd can won't such in & crack like I'm afraid the 1st could (its sucked in that much! )
