This was filmed on November 29th, 2024. My 2019 Model 3 (LR RWD) is using Tesla’s Full-Self Driving Supervised software, FSD v12.5.4.2, which is 2024.44.25.2 for HW3 vehicles. My car has an Intel CPU.

It's really odd for people to think a company has absolutely mastered this technology for all conditions. People need to lower their expectations. Hell, most drivers have no idea how to drive in these conditions as well
Next video: Tesla naval FSD. 🚢
But that Window movement got me worried a few updates back. I thought my car was having issues.
Full self driving taxis and cars in 2022 btw hahaha😂
We agree completely regarding what will be needed for the cameras to qualify as ready for full autonomy.
Given the slipperiness of the drive, do you regret not getting the AWD?
here in montreal canada, i try to use it with my wife in the passenger seat and she always gets so scared with the "Take Over Immediately" notification. I let it ride out even if it says that and it still drove for a good 2 minutes fine in the snow. I think the alert is so jarring and overused by Tesla…
A waste of my time
7min in: Too much talking, and no value.
impressive driving content
Wow, FSD has so much more to learn! In a couple of years it will be a matter of seconds. "Hey 'name of car' drive in the tracks you see in front of you…"
So when coming into town from 55mph to 35mph, car will only reduce to about 45 and will go 1/2- 3/4 mile before slowing to speed limit. I constantly must take it out of fsd mode, anything I can do to fix this?? Thanks
This AWD? Our 25 AWD Y has been trooping on 12.5 on snow covered dirt roads been surprised – if anything it wants to drive too fast for conditions.
When I was watching the intro with the highlight clips I was thinking to myself "why is v13 so bad"😅 but then I remembered that you don't have v13 yet. I can't wait until we can really test v13 out in the snow!
Tyres!
So, about people being right behind you while using FSD: Why is it that FSD is doing the safe thing (going a pinch under the speed limit) in the snow, but it kind of gets dinged just because there's some dick riding your butt? Other drivers should be respective of their surroundings as well and not riding you. Just some food for thought. I agree that I wish HW3 can also have V13 already, or at least the new speed profile modes because I will agree with you of sometimes it needs to be above the speed limit, sometimes that's "safer" depending on what road you're on.
Dude, all those poor people dumping all their money into the Tesla stock right now thinking FSD / robo taxi will be available next year should see this 😂. I’ve had FSD for three years now version 10 – latest 12. Robo taxi and all the other positive review videos might fool people . I’ve been living with Beta for a while so we know better. once I get the 13 update I’m gonna make a video with just a few of the millions of possible scenarios were FSD would absolutely fail …leaving the poor robo taxi 🚕 customer held hostage. Like what the hell would FSD do during a bad Santa Ana winds 💨 with wild fires 🔥 and you’re on some back road? There might be a lot of little sticks tumbleweeds covering the road yet there’s a fire coming so you might wanna just plow through all that shit to save your life. FSD nope. (that situation has actually happened to me.) one of 10000000 examples that FSD can’t handle, it might never handle without them, solving actual generalized artificial intelligence to think abstractly about problems. Which is basically science fiction at this point. Their little cheesy machine learning algorithm off all that training data based off 1 to 4 megapixel cameras is only fooling people as a party trick for now.
No it is not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a Model Y AWD, HW4 and newer cameras, and live in Chicago area.
I would of ignored the cars behind you, if they don't like the way you drive, tough beans.
Everyone is always in a hurry to go nowhere.
My ECU basically fried the other day after the 33.45 update. No visualizations, no FSD, no cameras, no sentry 😢 next service date is in 6 weeks. Car’s only 8mo old. 2024 MYRD
Elon and Tesla are living in fantasy world if they think FSD will be fully autonomous in anything but the sunny southwest. Or maybe they know the product will end up being mostly autonomous on most days but can’t come out and say that
Thank you for answering a question in my mind. I haven’t much snow in Long Island NY but at least now I have an idea about Tesla cars on a day like this one👍.
I like when FSD sees the oncoming car at 20:50, it starts to regain the confidence, which side of the road is the correct one.
I’ve been waiting for a video like this as I live in Michigan. I love FSD and I’m on 12.5.6, but it is not good in the snow…at all. Braking too late is a major problem. Also, the front wipers don’t do a good enough job in salty slushy conditions at clearing the windshield/camera.
Very interesting to see this seasons FSD performance. I was hoping for a better drive but I guess training material and also training priority for snowy conditions ain't on top of various lists… yet.
You know the rule for visual media "show don't tell" ?
It is not interesting or enjoying to hear someone talking about the things that we can already see for ourselves. Add context (or opinion) that isn't immediately obvious from what we see 🙂
90% of humans can’t drive in the snow worth a crap so I don’t expect FSD to do better. When roads are snow covered you have to think outside the box
The pillar cameras are heated on my 2024 model y. Hello from Michigan btw, same snowee experience
No tire chains or cloth?
I'm on the European FSD stack and have just done my first couple of winter drives. On AP, the car just drives like if the roads are dry and warm. The breaking is way to late even with the max follow distance 7. It also tries to drive according to where the lines are, ignoring the wheel tracks other vehicles have made which is giving away more traction than ABS could ever handle when driving at summer speeds. And I dont think there's even a warning in the manual about this. My first question driving in the winter was if it is safe to use AP. The manual says nothing, but my experience this far is a resounding "not safe". This is a genuine safety concern with FSD.
Dude I've noticed the window thing on my 2024 model y perf a few weeks ago when it started being so damn cold here in EU.. Once you engage the vehicle into drive, they'll seal all the way up. Such a nice detail, seems like the windows were getting stuck on older teslas when they froze over.
18:35 why is that sooo laggyyyy
Wow that’s great seeing FSD struggling with everyday task it’s just insane. This prove that Tesla still has a lot of room for improvement until the world wide roll out 👍👍👍
At 20:40 FSD is on the wrong side of the road! A human would not make that obvious miss take.
Setting the camera to get drive-by clips in the cold and snow. Quite dedicated to make quality video. I know you setup and record after your Drive. General public just watch video and don't even think what needs to be done 😂😂.Good work.
I just picked up a 2018 Model 3 this week and got to try FSD on some slightly snowy Indiana roads. The experience was quite similar to your video — the car still wants to apply too much acceleration in the corners. Otherwise I was pretty happy with how it did. It will be interesting to see what happens with a heavier snowfall.
Such a valuable contribution! Snow and even heavy rain seem like stretch goals that hopefullly (fingers crossed) can be solved by 2029
Avid fan of Tesla. I’ll wait for Tesla to improve FSD before I hand over control in bad conditions. Thanks for the content…don’t expect too much snow here in central Texas.
you should mention the fsd version in the title + description
I’m very interested in videos about FSD in the snow, so thanks for taking the time to do this. I am interested, however, in what your baseline car condition is before you start a drive. Specifically, do you wipe off all of cameras before starting? Also, you mentioned that your tires are under inflated. How much are they under inflated since this can negatively affect FSD functionality. Thanks again for all of your great work!
Have you ever driven in direct sunlight? It's blinderimg…i doubt Fsd can handle that. What about fog, heavy rain…etc?
FSD knows physics. I am sure FSD will do well on snowy roads. It will take time and more training.
Crap like this and people keep saying that FSD is ready for thw Robotaxi. Insane.
Keep up the great work. You have a great angle and I sure as heck can't give anyone a snow video like you can!
Why not try in winter tires?
