Enjoyed this story a whole lot. I was thinking about 2 or 3 other scenarios toward the end of how it may have progressed, but I like a winning ending especially after the last 3 years or so. We need more happy and just endings these days.

The notion that you couldn't afford to go to college without football scholarship is completely false.
The Financial Aid Program was SPECIFICALLY designed so that money is never an issue for anyone with potential. In fact, the poorer you are, easier it is to afford college.
I know this because I was that kid who hovered between free lunch and reduced pay lunch all throughout school. Teachers took the class to the school's career center and the guidance counselors gave presentations on multiple occasions. So the whole sob story of "sniff sniff I was smart but my potential couldn't be realized because my family was too poor to send me college" is UTTER nonsense. Anybody who says that were never a college material in the first place as they never even bothered to talk to their guidance counselor or do a simple Google research.
