Sending a friend request to someone you barely know, trying to interact online with someone you just met, or commenting on someone's photos that you don't know well enough can be considered stalkerish I think. Actively pursuing someone online or in person who shows no interest in you and/or has asked you to leave them alone, now that IS indeed stalking.
But looking up someone's profile out of curiosity isn't stalking, it's just being curious. I will often look people up on Facebook when I start a new job, as I simply want to put a face to the names of people I have been communicating with through email or on the phone. I will scroll a little to get a basic idea about the person, but it ends there. And the thing is, EVERYONE does this. And people who try to claim they don't or that you are weird for doing it, are liars.
