  1. Long reason here:

Theres a mma gym near me that i plan on going to soon. When it comes down to which art to train, the wrestling aspect seem more to my speed considering im an endomorph, with trex arms and always eating. I want to specialize in that part and then train in grappling, some striking and definitely kicks. Kinda like DC. I plan on doing this as a means to protecting both my fiance as well as myself. If i can take it to a career, sure but its to prepare for any war that may sprout. It is to also helps channel my uncontrolled anger that i never had certan help to resolve so physical therapy seemed more of my way to finding some peace. My fiance doesnt like that im joining but understands my reasons hence why she doesnt stop me. Nothing else helps me control my anger but only when i punch or get punched. Helps me remember time to time that it could always be worse. Being 28, im still young enough to be willing and able!

  2. The moves you learn in kung fu are brutal. It's not bad for self defense necessarily, it's just that you can't apply the majority of what you learn in class on the streets unless your getting jumped or something otherwise you'll be arrested. I learned a hybrid martial art that consists of tai chi, Shaolin Kung Fu, hard style karate, BJJ and Maui Tai kickboxing

  4. A friend from my parents does wing chun and he is a master of wing chun💪 He gave me private wing chun lessons when i was like 8 years old and rn i am almost 13 and i am also pretty good😄

  5. i wanted to know what the differences are in the martial arts but instead i got a 10min ramble about how you should avoid everything and read a book

  6. If you're thinking about self defense, you should be thinking "Which martial art is most effective in a street fight". A lot of martial arts are all about defending. But if you feel threatened, and knows something is going to escalate, then it makes more sense to strike first (instead of just waiting for the other person to do it). So the all-about-defending martial arts types, you can throw out the window.
Same goes for martial arts which includes taking your opponent to the ground. This is only effective, if your opponent actually WANTS to go to the ground (which most people won't).

If you want to be able to defend yourself, both in terms of defending and striking, go with lethwei or muay thai. Here you learn to knock your opponent out, powerful kicks, how to use your elbows effectively etc. Lethwei is even crazier, 'cause headbutting is allowed, and they fight bare knuckle

  7. The 4 prevention steps you provided gave me confidence, when at a pub recently and there was one bully amongst a room of placid patrons making it uncomfortable. I strongly urged my wife to leave and go to another saloon to feel safe. Conflict avoided

  8. I have started with ITF Taekwondo (because those kicks looked sick to me), then slowly transformed into Kickboxing as i started feeling my upperbody work to be more satisfying and quite powerful, to finally land on a boxing gym within a nice group leaded by 79-years old trainer. A soviet-style, very technical boxing art and I can now say, after 2,5 years of my strinking journey I have landed in MY place. Good luck and remember, none of your first decisions must be definitive. Listen to yourself, to your body, experiment and find your way 🥊

  9. It is less that self defense and martial arts refer to different things but that the idea of self defense has changed. Consider an ancient discipline such as karate which at its roots it was formed to allow the young, old, weak, ECT to protect themselves in their time. Times change and the threats change with it. Where self defense goes from being cut down by a nobal to someone throwing a random punch

  10. Gautam Budhha was the first man to introduce martial arts to China . His skill as a warrior in India and his perfection as an archer made him a legend. • A hidden history ○

  11. I’ve been going to aikido for a bit now which is How i found the channel and the school i go to has a trainer who Will give resistance especially if you do the technique Wrong. Which does help to make the technique more effective. Once every year shishiya sensei visits the school to oversee training so I trust them with teaching some what realistically for example we learned knife defense but the trainers said that we shouldn’t rely on it but it’s better than nothing if you can’t run away. I’ve been able to use ikkyo once with a person who wasn’t actively working against me but also didn’t just fall over while I’m only 6 kyu. So I have been lucky to get a good aikido school.

    Tl;dr
there’s a trainer at my aikido school giving resistance and I’ve been able to use ikkyo against a lightly resisting opponent who was trying to draw on me with a marker.

  12. I swim competetively but I wanted to have a change of sports and started wrestling recently. Its really fun and some wrestlers who mainpractitioned other stuff introduced me to jiu jitsu since it has a lot of similar technique and I wasn't sure what to do anymore. IN my experience though the wrestlers claim the sport isn't actually that dangerous as other fighting sports but you mention its worse for your body. (might be because im doing folkstyle)
