Flash flooding hits Milwaukee as heavy rain pummels millions across the Midwest
More than 10 million people across the Midwest remain under flood alerts as heavy rain causes widespread flooding in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri.
Milwaukee saw record-breaking rainfall, with 14.5 inches in 24 hours potentially setting a new state record, forcing a state of emergency, dozens of water rescues, and the cancellation of the Wisconsin State Fair’s final day.
Flooding also shut down parts of Milwaukee’s airport, disrupted major events, and swamped roads as the Milwaukee River hit a record crest, CNN has reported.
The storms, part of a larger system that killed one person in Nebraska and damaged a state prison, are expected to shift east Monday before the Midwest gets a brief break from the severe weather midweek.
