  1. Support your local stations! Even if you can't afford to donate money or volunteer your time, keep an eye on fundraising events and help spread word about them if you can.

  2. police wonder if you're committing crime. soldiers wonder about your political attitudes in what you do. firefighters save your life, no questions asked. those are the true heroes.
that said, i couldn't make it through 10 minutes of this video, because of the short clips and constant cutting. maybe next time show on the video what the guy is talking about.

  3. 20:20 The dude is already being badly burnt by being on fire. The main thing water does to a fire is take away heat. The steam that is being produced by spraying it would probably be cooler than him being on fire.

In Fire 1, we were talking about a situation like this where the firefighters did a VEIS on a victim. I cannot remember where this was. But they got the window open and cooled down the area where the victim was before entering. They made entry and made the grab. The victim ended up surviving and said she felt relief as soon as they opened up the nozzle.

Adding on, I probably would've use a straight stream with the nozzle not opened all the way instead of a fog pattern.

  4. They should always take the stairs instead of the elevator. What if they get stuck inside the elevator? Then, who's going to save them?! Like Kurt Russell said in Backdraft, if the floor's hot don't get out! LOL!

  5. You DO NOT want to watch back draft with fieries. Mum used to date a fiery in victoria country CFA, made a mistake playing that movie for them. Did not hear the end of it for a long time.

  6. I watched the behind the scenes for Ladder 49 and nearly all the acting personal went to a fire college in preparation
    J. Phoenix started out ahead of the crew and one of them upon first getting there wonder if he was actually a firefighter or not, cause he just came of a drill bunker gear still smoking

  7. I am the Medical Sergeant for a team that specializes in rough terrain/extreme climate Search and Rescue/Recovery, Disaster Response, and in the rare occasions they needed mutual aid for wildland fire, a handful of us are trained there too (which was my original training).
I love it. It's hot, dirty, exhaustive, beautiful, ugly, horrific and terrifying sometimes but I've always wanted to serve in some capacity and the idea of taking care of the men who risk and loose so much to serve others, here I can give something back to them. These men are incredible and there are so many amazing and incredible…
They are great men… Law enforcement of city/county/state, Game Wardens, Forest Rangers/Wildland, Structure fire, Search and Rescue/Recovery, River Rescue, Jumpers, Disaster control and Relief… and so many more… people focus on the Responders they see every day and either forget or not even know about the rest.

  8. Steve buicemi was a firefighter for bout 5 years on engine 55 in the FDNY and the movie Backdraft was a little accurate with the turnout gear because Chicago was the last fire department to use bunkers

  9. Huge marvel fan! I wanted to be a firefighter as a kid. Cause it's the most realistic way to be a superhero. That isn't a billionaire (batman) and bit by radioactive spiders (spiderman)
