  1. Im a 13 years old boy i remember i went for a sparring my opponent is my friend while were sparring i throw a hook but he slip it and counter it with a hook it the head like damn im seeing double i almost think im going to be blind

  2. One of my most important questions is how to do techniques in shadow boxing in fights. I am pretty good at shadow boxing but I am not as good in doing the techniques in a fight. I am not afraid of being punched at all but not doing well and losing!!!!

  3. Champ, why are most of your videos for beginners and mostly about feeling control, motive, how to walk, etc. I expect more hints for somehow skilled amateur fighters!

  4. Yup. Just started boxing. Coach wanted to spar, he knew Ive never boxed before or done sparring. He told told me to hit harder, so I did, and he popped me in the nose and Im pretty sure its cracked at the least

  5. I've just took a step up into the amateurs and I've done a few white collar fights and I was never busted open or really gotten hurt but since I've took myself into the amateurs it's been a completely different ball game and I'm struggling to spar all of a sudden since I've dropped like 2 weight classes.. feel like confidence has gone and I'm struggling

  6. I box's in England when to Australia to turn pro couldn't get lic waited 15 years when back England had two pro fight when back to Australia had 14 more pro fight retired at 40 years old love every minute of it unfortunately I left it to late

  7. Don't spar. Is stupid. I train boxing since 2012 and I did a lot and I had one amateur boxing bout and you don't need to do it, today I train by myself and avoid it. Spar only bring me, literally, headaches and bruises.

  8. I really wish there was a gym in my place that had coach with the same mindset as Tony. I would love to spar technique, but all they do at my gym is go 100% war every round. Im 30+ years old and won't risk my moneymaker (brain) for this experience. My friend left after 3 months of training because he sparred with a guy who gave him everything, KOd so hard, that he couldn't come back to consciousness for a few minutes…

  9. I have around 6 hours of boxing experience and I always look forward to the light sparring; my coach tells us to lightly spar with five different opponents/ one minute each. My first time I was able to understand the levels to boxing, you also get a better measure of your defense/offense and adjust. I also like to mimic moves higher level opponents use on me and try them out with others.

  10. Understand Your Motivation:
Determine why you want to spar: to fight, to experience the ring, or because of coach’s insistence.
If you’re not planning to fight, reconsider sparring unless you have a true desire for it.

    Control Your Breathing:
Deep breaths before entering the ring to manage nerves and heart rate.
Continue focusing on breathing during sparring to avoid fatigue.
    Focus on Defense First:

Prioritize defense over offense to reduce the chance of getting hit.
Effective defense can boost confidence and calm nerves.

    Practice Techniques:
Sparring is for learning, not fighting or hurting.
Focus on specific techniques or themes (e.g., left hand only, straight punches).
    Stick to Fundamentals:

Concentrate on basic techniques: proper stance, movement, straight punches, and basic defense.
    Avoid complex combinations initially.
    Identify and Correct Bad Habits:

Recognize bad habits (e.g., dropping your hand after a jab) before sparring.
Focus on correcting these habits to avoid being hit.
Sparring Method – Shoulder and Body Sparring:

Engage in shoulder and body sparring instead of head sparring to reduce risk of injury.
It helps improve reactions, learn to take body shots, and maintain competitiveness without head injuries.
