The guy on the beach is more likely to be fiddling with something between his fingers like say a matcg being struck on the side of a match box. Smartphones wouldn't even work going back in time without the infrastructure for them, Satellites, cell towers…..Go on a trip deep into the mountains and see how well you recieve and send calls/text, use the net or apps.

I'm 67 and spent 32 years in the military. Al Gore didn't invent the internet, the military did and I used it on a daily basis.
