  1. The TKD uniform or dobok shown is the WTF (World Tae Kwon Do Federation) style. This style is different than what was used before, which is the fold over top version or karate style, that is also still used. It was during the 1980's that the WTF TKD was a demonstration art or sport performing in the olympics, trying to become accepted, which eventually it was. It was jokingly said that the black border or collar of the WTF dobok top, including the square WTF patch at the bottom, was designed to look like an olympic medal.

  2. for AIKIDO you have to dress like a girl,
but I wish they would allow more color schemes than just white Gi and blue/black skirt.
I want a pink Aikido skirt

  3. that Seishin Gi is frikkin EXPENSIVE.
literally all the stuff he sells costs more than double the regular price
I guess it's the cost of FAME
Jesse, if you want a better review, send me a free Gi too…

  4. Seems like Muay Thai Shorts and a traditional Gi are the dominating uniforms.
Cool thing about these two is how versatile they both are .. for instance, Patagonia Baggies can be used for swimming, kicking and lounging. Gis can be used for fishing, rolling and lounging too.
The deeper I get into fight culture and minimalism the more I see just how much they compliment each other.

The goal for products I purchase is simple; Broad Versatility but not at the expense of Focused Utility.

  5. I was waiting for hakama to show up. I remember fighting some goon in an open style tournament that wore hakama and found it difficult because I couldn't see his feet position or movement easily. Also, I just like wearing them because the invention of slacks was a mistake and apart from kungfu silk gi, are the most comfortable pants ever.

  6. I’m more traditional, I don’t like any extra patches and what not on my gi, in judo there isn’t a lot you can get anyway but a plain white or blue mizuno gi to me looks best

  7. I have an apocryphal story about hakama, the split skirt aikido practitioners wear. I was taught that gi were essentially underwear, and o sensei's students would just wear whatever old hakama they had laying around. Later westernized students wore the gi and only wore hakama once they achieved black belt status. In my dojo it was reserved for brown belt and above, but I was told tohei sensei let women wear them right away for modesty reasons (i.e not walking around in men's underwear). All that being said, I hate the split top that is worn for aikido, karate, judo, etc, I have to constantly adjust it. I surreptitiously added a tie on the inside of mine so it wouldn't come loose. Very much prefer the kung fu uniform, no topless accidents!
