Metal wasn’t a genre back then, but Sabbath was definitely considered the most radical band. Songs like these were even more extreme than the heaviest blues rock tracks from Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.

I cut my teeth with live rock music watching Iron Maiden when they were a pub group in the Ruskin Arms, but Sabbath imo blow Maiden out of the water!. The number of excellent riffs, the lyrics, the heavy deep sound, musicians are far better Ozzy has batter rock sounding voice, everything is better and without using all the theatrics of Maiden. My friends of the time who are loyal to Maiden wouldn’t like me saying that but fuck it I prefer having the politics of sabbath mixed into a heavy sound, and none of that patriotic bs flag waiving of Maiden. ✌🏽
