  1. Some of Tony's best guitar solos are on this one, for me. So raw. Legend has it they had some nice bolivian marching powder for the recording sessions they did in a castle?? Epic..I feel like Ian got to cut loose with more screams than a typical deep purple album. He always kinda poo poos his part in the album, but he must have secretly enjoyed at least some of those tunes. What a cool merger off sabbath and deep purple, the 2 most colorful bands of the time!!

  2. As a Sabbath fan since 1971, this is very good album . It is too high pitched . The bass needed turning up the guitar needed downtuning with less all over the place soloing.
The drums. They sound hissy.. not nearly heavy enough, too much cymbals. All the songs are great, but smothered in a thick gravy. Its a Sabbath album that sadly didnt get the Sabbath treatment. No problems at all with Ian Gillan at all.
A great singer and album let down by a sludgy production. I got this album when it came out. Still listen to it proud to have it in my complete Sabbath collection.
This very good album would have been gargantuan . Maybe since Ian was there they were going for the purple sound.???

  3. I saw an interview with Ian who described their first show when he still wasn’t 100% about the lyrics so he put a large book with the lyrics written on them, on the floor in front of him. They had the crazy Stonehenge set up on the stage. The show started and the fog machines started flowing on the stage to the point where Ian couldn’t see his lyrics. He said he dropped to his knees to see the lyrics and the crowd thought it was part of the show, like he was just really getting into it. lol! Rock N Roll!
