  1. S.I.M.C.A. (acronym) was a French brand, which was bought by Chrysler around 1978, like many other European brands. Everything was sold 2 years later to Peugeot (which had just bought Citroen)

  2. as you like Citroens, also look at the "BX" model from 1983… very futuristic (the indicators are buttons for example). In addition, all Citroens have a manually adjustable suspension height (if you drive loaded, on a dirt road, or on the road)

  3. Hi there, Simca was a french car and later became Talbot, the Citroen CX was called like this because of the very low "penetration factor" a term used in aerodynamics. The not so good particularity was that this car's steering wheel didn't go back to the straight position after a turn and it had to be done manually by hands. The Renault 5 was once commercialized in the States as Renault Le Car, The Ford Skorpio was the equivalent of the Mercury sold in the USA.

  4. 12:38 I found the manual of a Citroën XM online. The strange panel is labelled ‘Radio Equipment’. It is a flap behind which the radio is concealed. I think it's so that potential thieves can't see the car radio. These things were stolen all the time back then.

  5. I was almost killed in an XM returning on autobahn. Suddendly there was a concrete or a brick on the roade
and I thought it was my last moment in time but the driver made a hell of manouver and saved us. This was a car fully packed with people and luggagage going like 160 km/h. And the car just willingly followed the drivers command like a fighter jet.

  6. The NSU Ro80 was a middle class sedan from a company that became part of Audi. It had a rotary engine (which was terrible) and quite modern/futuristic style.
Those engines and the modern design made it struggle in the vintage car market for a long time, because people didn't want a car that was difficult to keep running and looked like it was barely 10 years old by the late 90s.

  7. I had a 1991 928 GT 5Ltr Manual V8 , Dyno 342.3 BHP at the wheel…
Amazing car much better than any 911 and it's got pop up headlights.
My car was on a TV show.. Classic car rescue UK Channel 5 .

  8. 8:44 wait until he finds out about the Renault Avantime and the Renault Vel Satis because they also had similar rear ends. But I really love this era of Renault. And Citroen sadly doesn't do as quirky car as they did before because most most of the people it was too extravagant… But they weren't afraid to polarise

  9. Also in the UK opel models are Vauxhall's. (GM product) the hot version of Vauxhall is VXR.
My mum had a Renault 9, was good to go to a hospital fast in… Lol I broke my wrist as a kid…. No seatbelt in rear at the time.
The scorpio came in a saloon and hatchback.

  10. I have the same xm lol
With a V6 (170 hp for mine, max is 200), Leather and heated seats, hydraulic suspension with two hardness levels (sport and normal)…it's a really nice and comfortable car

  11. Im suprised the mk2 focus wasnt on the list in 2005. In mid Europe, in Hungary especially the focus mk2 and the Opel astra g was top selling at that time, no other car got even close.

  12. I do understand the love for Peugeot piano design. It looks and feels amazing, however the engines on Peugeots are just way too small for those cars… I mean you cant get a 400hp+ variant from either 3008-5008 even if you were willing to pay for it

  13. 12:26 This panel covers radio and small compartment for little things, down below is panel covering also ashtray. Few fun facts about XM:
    – it has hydroactive suspension: you can lower or raise whole car on demand (eg. low ride on higways, higher on unpaved roads). This can also level the car on corners, counteracting centrifugal force. Finally is very comfy because of that and while driving you have feeleng more like sailing a boat.
    – handbrake i actually a foot brake, just like in many Merc's
    – there is a security feature, everytime you want to start the engine you have to enter the pin code (keypad is bellow gearshifter)
    – It was used by french president for some time
    – for it's design it was called "fastest european iron"

  14. I didn't know that there was a Euro car of the year, I thought each country had its own like for me in France there's a different car of the year for every year pretty much compared to this list. Also I don't understand why there's so much Fiat 😂 they are trash especially the ones on this list, I think the Italians had a lot of influence over the choice of the car because for every year that a fiat was chosen there were at least 3 other cars that were better that year 😂

  15. Fiat Panda 4×4 is a beast. You'll see them a lot in the blackwood forest. I call them the mommy jeep. It is small, resistant, easy to handle and you'll find easy a parking place in the city! Nice car!

  16. The XM… the last actual European Car of the Year.. innovation, crazy design, superb suspension.. the problem was the Mk1s were made with biodegradable plastic wiring loom connectors… which were meant to last 25 years before biodegrading.. but started to degrade within months.
They fixed this on the Mk2 but the damage had been done to the reliability.
Also vs the contemporary Merc and t series, the interior build quality wasnt great, again down to the plastic issue.
But mechanically, absolutely bulletproof as Citroens tended to be back then, and to be fair, they are pretty tough mechanically these days.
I have a 2004 E46 BMW 320i convertible and we own a 2004 Renault Megane CabrioletCoupe and a 2004 Citroen. I spend my life fixing the BMW, the other two cars dont get much love but just keep going.

  17. Look Back to your wall, and you will see what NSU become… eh eh eh… NSU Motorenwerke AG, or NSU, was a German manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles and pedal cycles, founded in 1873. Acquired by Volkswagen Group in 1969, VW merged NSU with Auto Union, creating Audi NSU Auto Union AG, ultimately Audi. The name NSU originated as an abbreviation of "Neckarsulm", the city where NSU was located.[1]

  18. Any Renault, Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen on this list never made it to the US, at least before the formation of Stellantis. Detroit 's Big 3 all had European divisions, including Chrysler when they bought into Simca=Talbot. As indicated later, GM used many Opel designs as US models under the Saturn and Buick brands.
Three-door hatchback econoboxes are a more of a European thing, they are largely absent from the US market.

04:45 SimcaChrysler Horrizon was sold in the US also as a Plymouth. There was also a 2=door coupe version on the same platform. Shelby did a special edition of both dubbed GLH. Reportedly stood for 'goes like hell'.

05:30 the Lancia Delta, like all the other Italian cars at that time, was not sold in the US. There are a few Lancia Delta Integrales that have been privately imported. Their value has gone thru the roof.
05:43 The Renault 9 is also a car you should have heard of. It was sold as the Alliance during the brief time Renault owned American Motors, before they sold it to Chrysler for the Jeep brand.
05:54 Also sold in the US. A german-designed, korean-built car sold in the US as the Pontiac LeMans, as a four-door sedan and a three-door hatchback. Lasted about three model years.
05:56 ONe of two models, the other one being the XR4ti, sold by branded Merkur dealerships as 88 and 89 models. I own one.
06:00 another rebadged Opel. This one is the Cadillac Catera, sold for about five years.

  19. There are any number of videos on Ytube on every one of these cars, even the more obscure ones like the NSU. Educate yourself.

"It's like a university in the US". That's funny. Go Cornhuskers!

  20. I have been watching your videos lately, and I really enjoy watching them, it is so interesting the insane differences between our nations. I am from Gothenburg, Sweden where the volvo factory is so I love that you love volvos! 😀

  21. I see you dig french designs. They are the weirdos of the industry, but every now and then they do come up with a masterpiece. Check out the 2010s Citroen c6. One of my friends had one. It's a weird design but comfort related, as a limo it's the best car ever made imo. It sails rather than riding. I mean, Rolls Royce level of comfort 😊😊

  22. The panel on the Citroen XM that looks like a screen is a plastic cover which hides the audio system, the Peugeot 405 had a similar panel, in those days stealing car audio equipment was very common the cover just hid the system from opportunist thieves, I'm not sure it was that successful at stopping a determined thief though.
