  1. Why on earth was anyone driving a car with that known issue, especially an 18 year old kid?? They were provided with a loaner for a reason…. so no one would drive a car that had an accelerator that could get stuck. That kids parents should be ticketed and charged for whatever damage the police car sustained

  2. Happened to me Mansfield Texas on a bmw 318 we had just put a used engine in and had wiring issues with. I don’t know how or why I engaged cruise control but it could not disengage and brakes couldn’t do nothing. Good thing I switched off the ignition key and car stopped.

  3. The only thing I didn’t like was asking the boy stupid questions like “when you hit the brakes nothing happens?” while dude is flying 113 mph and needs to be focused. Did the cop think Sam had no idea he could use brakes to stop? Other than that it was a perfect idea to slow him down with the cruiser.

  4. This happened to me before on the highway and I almost had a panic attack.. I tried EVERYTHING.. and then I just tried to turn my car off and it worked 🙌 I'm glad I didn't have Push button. 🤦🏻‍♀️

  5. Stuck accelerator and the systems don't have a way to turn off the engine or disengage gear. Really poor design, basically the computer decides that one thing breaking and you got no more control.

  6. Electronic throttle, electronic parking brake, electronic gear selector, electronic ignition switch. Gee, it's almost like removing the physical connections of all parts of the drivetrain from the controls is a bad idea…

  7. This is why push button ignitions are stupid to me. If I ever have a runaway I can switch my vehicles off without locking the steering. Yeah the brakes are heavier and there's no power steering, but my engine won't blow up and I'm in control of the car.

  8. I'm glad it turned out OK. However, the take away is why do people not know how to turn off their car when it's running? In the push-button cars I've owned, holding the start button for 3 seconds will turn them off if the car is moving. I don't know if that's a standard, however. But, it would be engineering negligence for a driver to have no ability to turn off a car just because it's moving.

Sadly, there are other stories like this where everyone dies.

  9. Shift to neutral and then pull parking brake. Parking brake alone isn’t enough to keep the car from moving 😂 pretty easy to get a car with a stuck pedal to stop or slow down.

  10. I'm a mechanic and while watching this I was thinking about what I'd do in this situation. I honestly don't have any answer. All of those officers saved this young guys life, it's unbelievable. I'm amazed at how calm and collected the kid was, likely knowing he was going to die. That's a testament to a truly incredible character.

  11. Everyone needs to know this: To force the engine to stop on most any modern car, including Hondas, hold down the stop/start button for a few seconds. This is the equivalent of turning the key off in older cars.

  12. This shouldn't even be possible. the brakes of the car should be able to stop the car even if it's stuck on full throttle. That and the car should shut off if you press the button. How did this even happened?

  13. Amazing that nobody was hurt. It's very weird that the gas pedal was stuck like this. It reminds me of when people kept having floor mats stuck on Toyotas a while back. Most cars have the locking mechanisms in them now where you turn the two knobs to hold them in place now.
