Why are the detectives acting like the idea of fantasies leading to violent crimes is a new concept to them? Have they never studied the psychology of sexually motivated serial killers whose sexual depravity always begins as a fantasy and then progresses into ritualistic serial murder? How are they in a "special victims unit" if they are so ignorant of such a well known phenomenon?

the detectives in svu don’t do this anymore. the show somehow stopped doing investigations to find who did what. now we just know who did it & they spend the episode trying to get justice in court.
