Perfect example of a well trained race horse, not abused very well behaved. But the others have just been taught and abused into going fast as soon as they see the track
This is a great sample of who is drugged but they all are abused so I don’t watch racing if you own a horse you what is abuse (some people do)but the wiping over and over forced to run at 3 when still developing putting all the wait on one hoof when running and there are dr#ugs then the sweat before they even at the track is crazy and some of them don’t get turn out (no hate we all have opinions); also not saying who’s are abuse racing industry just wips so hard so many time to push the horse out of there limits for just money and trophies
Already read through the excuses and misconceptions but I do have things to add. The racing industry makes it IMPOSSIBLE to participate without abusing. But let’s start from the top.
1. Exploitation No, this isn’t a fun hobby. This “sport” is made for the purpose of making money. Bets, winning money, spectator tickets, all of it. This is simply using and abusing animals for money and entertainment. No one races just for fun because it’s far too expensive to own a race horse just for it to be a hobby.
2. Overbreeding and Slaughter issues. Statistics show about every 300 in 1000 foals (in Australia, lower in the US) actually make it to the track. Around 100,000 foals are bred globally each year for the intent of racing. Now. 20% of those 100,000 foals will never be registered (usually slaughtered). Now we have 80,000… HALF of that only races once. 40,000 left. And then only 25% of them prove to be actually valuable and worth breeding. 10,000. We decreased by 10%. Now this is GLOBAL. Its CERTAIN that these horses are being slaughtered because otherwise we’d all have horses.
3. Injuries Whether you abuse your horses or not you run the risk of injury on the track. There is evidence of many cover up injuries and fatalities, but this is what we have. About 2 in every 1000 starts there is a fatality. Injury is about 3 in every 1000 starts. Now it’s not really known how many starts there are annually, but say there are 100 race tracks in the US and each holds 10 starts every day. Thats 1,000 starts a day. Which means 4-5 horses get injured or fatally injured every single day just in the US. This is everything that is REPORTED.
4. Long term injury Surprise surprise, there are long term injuries that can affect horses for the rest of their lives. Almost ALL ottbs end up having navicular issue, laminitis, reduced lifespan, respiratory issues, arthritis, dental issues, digestive issues, cardiovascular issues, decreased muscle mass, strained or damaged tendons, kissing spine, hip pain, back pain, joint pain, trouble keeping on weight, and some have higher risk of infection.
5. Conditioning and diet EVEN FREYTAG is under muscled and skinny. Most race horses are a solid 3.5-4 on the body scale. Not showing much of the hips yet, but the ribs are showing, legs are boney, neck is narrow, you can see certain bones more clearly than you should, not a whole lot of bulk to the chest. They aren’t getting what they should be for food, why? Because of aerodynamics. The less body mass there is the less air resistance there is. This is also why jockeys are light.
6. Everything is rushed Do you know how many of these horses aren’t even properly saddle trained? Or how many of these horses are only 2? The answer is a LOT. Where some under saddle training can be started closer to 3, 2 is far too early. This causes joint, muscle, tendon, and spine damage.
7. Mental abuse Ok. So sure. We don’t abuse our horses for a second. How much strain really is there? The track itself is stressful. Screeching loud speakers, bright lights, other unfamiliar horses bumping into yours, running nonstop sometimes for a long time with no rests or breaks, people yelling all around you, flashing lights, fences to worry about not crashing into… on top of that all the stress that goes into simply being ridden. Any living being would be stressed by that. It’s possible freytag is shut down. Its also physically and mentally damaging to be in a stall 24/7 like almost ALL race horses are
8. My personal experience. I have and off the track standard bred. She is still terrified of gunfire and hates ear muffs. Why? Buggy races start with a gunshot and typically they wear ear protection. Now she doesn’t have muscle issues because standardbreds need muscle to pull buggies, but I have noticed her fat distribution isn’t the same as most other horses. There is an old ottb who has almost all the issues I listed in the long term injuries. I have friends and relatives who have worked on the track. All of which have a “leg in half break” story, a “drugged then raced again” story, a “brought out in body bags but not recorded” story, and a “so brutal it got me the hell out of there” story.
When abuse is the only thing that gets you anywhere, the only people who participate are the people soulless and greedy enough to let an animal suffer.
(Note:Three things not mentioned. The stats are for ONLY thoroughbreds, not appendix, arabian, and standardbred racing. And racing horses have the HIGHEST injury rate and have the highest resale with injury rate. There is also a high rate of dental and health neglect)
hi all! here’s your friendly scientific reminder that horse racing is abuse.
. based on the ABC 730 investigation, almost all horses associated with the track end up being slaughtered.
racehorses tend to be kept in small confinement with no social interaction with other horses. 4 in 5 racehorses show stress and abnormal behavior during stalling due to this.
an estimated TWO THOUSAND horses are killed racing or training across the US only, about 6 horses a day.
10,000-15,000 “spent” or unwanted racehorses are send to slaughter each year.
horses are almost always drugged; and they have side effects. cobalt for example can cause blood thickening, and heart and nerve problems.

This was prob ash when she raced😂💁♀️
They drugged him.
Horrible!! This sport is ABUSEEEEE
That horse is definitely dr*gged up to the max
That is the calmest racehorse I’ve ever seen in my life

just saving her/his energy and proved it has been trained well
From what I’m seeing Is he may actually be drugged.

Aww the last horse seemed so sweet! And all the others plus that one was beautiful!❤
Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean that there’s no abuse involved. To the comments “ finally a unabused race horse! “
